I took his 105 along with 111. Recieved A's in both.
Piterberg is a legit professor. The guy is a genius and knows a shit load about everything. He is obsessed with soccer and Seinfeld too. His class is very laid back, he admits that he doesn't expect anyone to do all the readings. Tests are simple enough, but you really need to go to class in order to do well. The readings are barely represented on the final and midterm, but the lectures make up almost all of them. 111 consited of a multiple choice midterm and an essay and ID final.
A word of caution: When I took 105 we had sections, and the class was much more difficult because of this. Both the midterm and final were bluebook format without any study guide; the instructions were literally "be prepared to write two essays on the second half of the class".
I highly recomend piterberg though, especially if the class won't have sections.
Good Lecturer and a funny guy who really knows his stuff on Arab Provinces in the Ottoman Empire, the experience only got better with Nefertiti as my TA, she was awesome! Anyways, discussion section, final, midterm make up the grade in this class, and it's not a terribly hard class, but the readings were very complex, nevertheless take him, he's really cool!
