124-D was a challenging class, as I expect my upper-divs to be, but Professor Lenhoff wants you to succeed. She's open to questions, before, during, and after class(especially during office hours), and she's great about answering e-mail (same day turnaround, usually). The readings are seriously big. But even I, as a slow reader, taking three other reading-intensive courses and working 20 hours per week, managed to keep up with the rest of the class - most of the time. Come to every session, having done the readings; take good notes; ask questions ... even if only to clarify something clerical re: the class, and not to advance some theory about Dostoevsky.
I took Russian 124D with Professor Lenhoff, though it's not listed here so the review will say I took 125 as that is the closest number. She is a great professor. The amount of reading was very large, roughly 2,000 pages, but she chose very interesting novels and I actually enjoyed it. She is very willing to answer questions, no matter when I emailed her I would get a response quickly. Also, she was willing to read the essays before turning them in and gave wonderful feedback. If you're willing to go back and forth with her a bit it shouldn't be too difficult to get an A. Professor Lenhoff is a very good teacher, I enjoyed this course overall and recommend it to anybody with an interest in Dostoevsky.
