You will not succeed in this class unless you record the lectures. There’s a midterm and final exam, both of which are entirely written aka no multiple choice. You could probably get away with not reading the articles but you definitely need to know what he covers in lecture in order to do well. I don’t think I would have done nearly as well if I wasn’t able to re-listen to lectures because he talks pretty quickly and it’s easy to miss things unless you ask him outright. However he does hint at concepts you should know but he doesn’t provide any sort of study guide. There’s also an 8 page final paper worth a good chunk of your grade.

I think the midterm was graded pretty harshly (I got points off for not having enough explanation or having the right general answer but didn't mention the correct term). The professor was pretty good at lecturing but I do think the lecture slides and lecture weren't great at mentioning when things were specific terms that we had to memorize or just descriptors to a concept. Also, the professor got off track a lot and it got confusing to keep track of what was happening. The lack of recording made review difficult because the professor also talked quickly enough that I couldn't write everything down always.

Bryant is definitely one of the least boring professors I've ever had. I enjoyed his lectures even though I didn't really care for the material. The class I took was evolution of interpersonal communication and I was surprised to find out a majority of the course is learning about animal signals... Nevertheless it was an interesting, down-to-the-basics communications class. Midterm, final, and research paper- that's it.

Professor Bryant is one of the best professors I have taken a class with at UCLA.

He is not your average professor. He is super chill which makes him approachable.

The class was compromised of a midterm, final and a lit. review paper.

Attending lecture is crucial. He basis his tests more on the lecture than on the reading. BUT, the reading still helps.

Professor Bryant made the class interesting and reasonable. His exams are straightforward, and he doesn't try to trick his students in any way. I enjoyed this class, just like many of the other students did.

I really enjoyed class with Bryant. He took a topic I was iffy about (evolution of interpersonal communication) and made every lecture unique and engaging. I enjoyed going to his lectures every time because he was not only clear in the information, but super helpful and a great speaker. He knows his shit, and you read a few of his own papers.

Two tests (midterm/final) and a big ol literature review paper. Would recommend taking 150 first, but I did not come in with 150 and still got an A in the class with a bit of guidance on my paper.

Hyped to be in his COMM100 class Winter 15, because I really did enjoy my time with him.
