definitely recommend brix! :) he lets you use a cheat sheet, and as long as you follow through his slides which are super organized, you can do well in both the midterm and final. i think his midterm and finals are fair, not the typical regurgitation kind of paper, but more of conceptual understanding (since you have a cheat sheet for that). he's really approachable and nice! do take him over the other profs! :):):) for someone who doesn't like science, it is actually very logical and easy to follow! SO TAKE IT NOW! :)

I was in professor Brix's Climate Change lecture and lab. I loved his class overall, and never thought it was too challenging. As someone who doesn't particularly enjoy sciences, i was pleasantly surprised by how much i learned and enjoyed his class. The lab was extremely easy, there were no extra hours to go to, just 4 extra (and very straightforward) assignments that we had to turn in. I think what i liked best about Prof Brix is that he was SO helpful and ALWAYS willing to meet with me if i had any questions. I don't think i ever met with him during his reguar office hours, but he was always very good about arranging a different time. I definitely suggest taking this class; ultimately it's very simple, easy to study for, and the professor is awesome.

Great professor and class. He explains everything in detail, has the lectures on podcast, and is fair with assignments. The midterm and final are fair, he even lets you use a cheat sheet. I recommend it for anyone, even if your not interested in science. Added bonus that there is no book needed.

He was a great professor. His lectures were very clear and concise, and you always knew what he expected. He posts all lectures online, and a podcast of each lecture as well.

i love dr brix! this is the first a in a science class that i've gotten since 9th grade. he lets you use a study sheet for both the midterm and the final, and is so willing to help in any way possible. he's also super understanding; i had to miss the midterm for a sports tournament and he let me take an "oral quiz". also great is that he has a tight german accent. take brix for an easy science ge

He is a really interesting professor. His accent was the only thing keeping me awake in the morning. Aside from that an easy GE and lab component.
Class
Class is very straightforward. Just make sure you study the maps! Understand them 100%! Oh, and another hint. If you can get a copy of a midterm do so! He recycles questions. Make sure you do not slack off with HW those are your buffer points for the tests!

I took AOS1 and 1L with Brix. He is funny, effective, fair, accessible, and has a great accent. Class had either a hw assignment or a lab each week and the midterm and final were certainly reasonable. I am considering taking another AOS class just to have Brix again.

Brix as a professor is great. He's clear in his lectures and organized. Climate change on the other hand, is not the most interesting topic. It's not exceptionally difficult, but I would say it requires some studying for the midterm and final. Yes, cheat sheets are provided, but Brix tests on the application of concepts not just pure definitions, so don't underestimate the midterm and final. The homework for the class and for the lab sections weren't too difficult, but I found myself misinterpreting questions several times. Definitely team up with a friend or go to your TA's office hours if you're confused because its not worth losing easy points on. An A is definitely possible, just put some effort into the assignments and study before the tests.

I just took AOS1: Climate Change with professor Brix and I have nothing but good things to say about his class. Lectures are twice a week and very interesting especially since we are in the midst of global warming as we speak! His midterm is fill in the blank and short answer but he lets you bring an 8.5X11 Sheet of notes as crammed as you like to both the midterm and the final. Although there is no assigned text book for the course, he posts his lecture slides on the class website to allow students to print them out and review before class. Over all professor Brix is always more than willing to help students out in any way he can. This was one of my favorite classes this quarter.

Professor Brix is an extraordinarily nice man, very easy to approach. His lectures can be a little dull (especially in the beginning of the course where he goes over the basics), but Brix always keeps the mood light with his jokes. Unless there are technological difficulties, he posts lecture slides + podcasts online. He expects short answers for the midterm + final, but does allow students to bring in a sheet of notes -not that it helps much because the majority of the questions focus on understanding concepts rather than spitting back terms. Homework: every two weeks -super easy, just 2-3 pages, short answer. I found the course absolutely fascinating and somewhat demoralizing (yep, bleak + dreary future lies before us) but I'd definitely recommend taking Climate Change :] Word of advice though: don't underestimate the ease of the midterm.
