I would absolutely take this class again. Easy A+, easy GE.
Due to my busy spring quarter, I was unfortunately not able to go to lecture and do my other classes well. I stopped attending lecture around week 3, barely watched the lectures online, and still got an A+. I wish I could've gone to lectures, they are funny and very interesting (coming from someone who hates history and Rome and everything like that with a passion).
The professor is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and passionate about this material. It is essentially impossible to not get an A in this class if you try. Every lecture is recorded and put online.
5 quizzes each worth 5%, comment and essay 1 worth 20%, comment and essay 2 worth 20%, paper worth 20%, engagement worth 15%.
Each quiz is online, opens Friday and closes Monday, has unlimited attempts, and tells you which questions you got wrong. Each essay is relatively simple and easy to do, you just have to sit down and do them. I highly recommend going back to past lectures, remembering what the prof. says, and using it. Engagement refers to discussion, which is incredibly use to participate in if you haven't read the readings. Note: there is a grace period for all WRITTEN assignment (comment and essay 1/2 and paper), meaning you can submit up to three days late with no penalty. Anything after that is 2% deduction for every day late. There is no word limit on these written assignments so I highly recommend going above and beyond to make sure you have enough analysis but double check with your specific TA. I had Jamir as my TA and he was incredibly helpful.
There is no in person exam, quiz, or essay.
Super easy class with a great professor. Culik-Bard is truly one of the best lecturers at UCLA and she speaks with an eloquent touch. Class itself had 3 essays, all of which are graded nicely by the TAs, along with some quizzes that you could retake. The content itself wasn't too interesting to me as someone who went to lectures, and can be kind of dreadful going to all three each week, but you can easily just watch the recordings. This is one of those classes you take if you're trying to boost your GPA and take more than 3 classes a quarter. I was a little hesitant coming in because the historical analysis classes tend to be reading heavy, but I got by without reading the textbook because she went over it in lecture anyway. Definitely recommend!
The professor is super understanding and clear with what she's looking for. For the essays, just say something along the lines of what she says in class and you'll be good. There are 5 quizzes, but they have unlimited attempts and time. There are 2 short "essays" and 1 final paper. Discussion for this class is also mandatory, but it lowkey wasn't that bad. I forgot I was taking this class most of the time and still got an A. Def take this class of you need the GE and want an easy A.
Weekly online quizzes (can retake to get 100%) = 25%

Essay 2 = 20%

Super easy class. Never went to class, got A
To be honest, I think I went to like 4 lectures max. I got an A. You can probably get an A+ if you go to more than me. I can't really comment on the class since I barely went. Workload was easy just look at the slides for the quizzes. All the assignments are due by the end of the class so do it whenever you want. Easy A. Good luck.
Professor Culik-Baird is a living essay. The way she speaks in class is really sophisticated and eloquent that for the comment & essays and the final paper that we have to write, I basically just wrote what she said in class and did well on all the essays. In class, instead of taking notes from the slides I recommend just writing down everything she says. Take this class if you want an easy GE!
Professor Culik-Baird is an extremely eloquent orator! She is incredible at explaining nuanced and complex topics so concisely and effortlessly. At the same time, she helps you notice such small details about the different texts and artwork that we review during this class. For example, she might say, "in a meta way, the fact that women are not mentioned in this piece of textual evidence says something in and of itself about the way women are viewed in Roman society." Like it's just mind-boggling how effective of a lecturer she is. And she's also so young! You really just have to pay attention to the lectures and you're set for the class. Overall, a very easy GE with a great professor and light workload. (PS she loves to say the words "meta" and "neurosis" LOL)
This GE class is very easy. No attendance. Late work accepted without consequences. Biweekly quizzes that you can take as many times as you want and she takes the highest score. Three assignments/papers overall.
JOEL ERICKSON is the best TA. He cares about your learning and wants you to excel in the course. He takes attendance in his sections but he makes his discussions interactive and easy to participate/get a good grade in.
