Most Helpful Review
Spring 2025 - Take this class with Dr. Pham. Please. For starters, I think the physical science and engineering version of the OChem series is far better than the life science counterpart. I thoroughly enjoyed this class because it felt like all the support I needed was made available to me. OChem can be daunting - especially on the quarter system - but Pham structured the course exceptionally well. For starters, there are extra credit opportunities aplenty, which really does help out with the grade cutoff for an A being a 94, as well as only 300 total points going into the grade book. The EC worked out to be 10-15 total points so do not fret if your exams don't go as well as they hoped! As far as the coursework itself, the load is extremely manageable. The BACON tutorials (an enrichment video series about applications of the concepts you learn) are very short and end up being free points so long as you pay attention. We got 2 weeks to finish the PSets and the problems on the PSets closely resembled the ones we saw on tests. This is especially true towards the end of the course when you start doing reaction pathways. Finally, the LA review worksheets are challenging but prepare you really well for exams, and his office hours are super helpful whether you're looking for help or just want to get to know Pham better. 10/10 course, would take again
