This is the first class in my college career in which I have gotten a grade lower than a B (I'm a junior in a stem major). The assignments were overall fine (though the hw was graded harsher than previously according to some LAs I talked to). There were plenty of opportunities for extra credit, but it is not enough when you are doing below average on the exams. I got an A- in 14C so it came as a shock when the first midterm was fairly hard, the second even harder, and the final was atrocious. Obviously you take this class if you need to, and I expect many to do better than me, it was just much tougher than 14C ever was.
Pham overall was fine, but he was always seemingly serious. He admitted at the end of the quarter that he doesn't feel like he did as good of a job teaching as usual, so I guess something went wrong for both of us this quarter.
Ochem is know to be hard, but I loved this professor. He gave a lot of extra credit and really cared about our learning. Going to his office hours was intimidating, but I did learn a lot. This class is majority memorization - even if Pham says it is not. It is also application based, but majority of my studying was memorizing reactions. I actually think this class was my favorite out of the chem series, even if I did not get an A+. I learned so much through this class, which is worth more to me.
