This fiat lux was super fun. I'm not a music person at all and just took this class for funsies but a lot of the other people in the class were music majors or involved in music somehow (ie. bands, songwriter, etc) so I felt a little out of place. However Prof Krouse was super friendly and had an infinite knowledge of music fun facts relating to the composers talked about in the class. Basically what you do is he gives a list of all the composers who went to UCLA, taught here, or donated or something and you choose 1 to present on. You can do your presentation however you want and choose the week (although unless you go first you'll probably end up going 1-2 weeks behind schedule). Prof Krouse presents first and loves to share stories, fun facts, music theory info, etc whenever he has something to add. Again, super friendly and approachable. Would recommend this class if you are interested in listening to some good music from a variety of composers or just learning about something for fun.
It always amazes me that we are able to take classes with maestros in fields that we are not officially studying here at UCLA. This class was an example - taking a class with professor krouse was super fun, low stakes, and insightful. He is super knowledgeable and makes this a class you can look forward to in the middle of a stressful week of more academically rigorous classes. Highly recommend.
