review for physics 5c

McLean won't be teaching again since he just retired this past quarter but if anyone wanted to know more about him in general or the class lol here's my review:

in addition to his amazing experiences and accomplishments, prof McLean is so sweet and accomodating for students.

midterms and the final were not hard at all and the class median score was 95. some questions are pulled straight from class practice problems and everything is SUPER straight forward. While I didn't really like the content at all, the exams were so easy that it made this class very simple. 10/10 would take it again with McLean (even though he's retiring and that's not possible, but you get the idea)

I can't say enough good things about Professor Mclean. He was without a doubt one of the best professors I've had at UCLA. He is patient and kind and is very clear in teaching the subject matter. His tests are fair and straight forward. His passion for what he does is inspiring and it is very easy to tell he absolutely loves what he does. Even though our knowledge of the subject was a fraction of what he knows he still is patient and always takes questions. A lot of classes at UCLA are so tough and competitive but he takes a little bit of the edge off. The material is definitely not easy so expect to study but as the rest of his reviews have said, he genuinely wants his students to succeed. He is very helpful especially during office hours. 10/10 recommend

When I took this class, the first midterm was killer and I got one point away from an F so I made a huge effort to study for the rest of the quarter. I got an A in the class but so did just about everyone else. Do the homework and labs well, you don't have to go to discussion, and when it comes to the tests I really can't say. Personally, I don't care anymore. McLean is not all he is cracked up to be. His lectures are interesting, and take his class to get a relatively easy A (in physics 6c anyway), but what makes him so outstanding as a prof I didn't see, and I went just about every day. He'll help your GPA for all you premed's out there though. FYI: he teaches this course spring quarter only, if that influences your decision at all. Hope that helps.

A wonderful man! Professor McLean was the first professor to actually make me enjoy physics. His lectures are understandable and he's very concerned about student learning. The first week of class he made a great effort to add all those students who needed to get into his class. He's very understanding of student circumstances and will always do his best to help them out. It is definitely possible to get an A in his class. He grades on a straight scale, so he has no problem giving everyone A's. All you need to do is DO THE HOMEWORK!! If you understand every homework problem and show up to lecture you will have no problem getting an A. I never thought I would get an A in a physics class, but I was able to do it with professor McLean. He's just AWESOME! Can't say anything else.

I can't say enough good things about Professor McLean. Considering that I can't stand the thought of Physics and I have never been good at it, Physics 6C with Prof. McLean was AWESOME!!! His tests are practically identical to the homework problems. One time he changed the due date for one of the homework sets and I didn't hear about it...he let me turn it in one week late for full credit. How many professors do you know that would do that? Prof McLean is such a nice guy, and he really tries to make physics interesting and fun for everyone. Going into the quarter, I was most worried about 6C, and thought it would be my hardest class, but it turned out that it was my easiest and when it came down to finals week it was a big lift off my shoulders to have an easy final. It was practically identical to the practice final. If physics is hard for you, and you want to finally Ace a physics class, you HAVE to take it with Professor McLean. He is one of the best professors I've taken at UCLA, if not the best.

A must-take professor. Not only does he make Physics enjoyable -- he makes it simple for us to understand. One of his characteristics is that he gives us plenty of useful hints regarding the exams - pay close attention to those. He tests on the very main ideas, not the minute details. His homeworks are somewhat challenging, but he tests mostly from those, so the tests are not that bad. He even gives partial credit on multiple choice! A very nice guy too! Definitely take 6C with him if you want to actually enjoy physics!

I really loved this professor. He is by far, the BEST physics professor I've had at UCLA. I loved his lectures and began to love physics. Office hours were very helpful and he even helped us on the homework questions! The TA was great as well. If you try hard and do all of your hw, you will get an A. He will give you the tools and everything you need to know to get that A.

These people aren't kidding...he really does tell you exactly what's going to be on the tests, especially the final. The questions are "prove that the answer is 10" rather than "what is the answer" --- so easy! His lectures are good too, and he's a very sweet man. When he hurt his back and was out for a few days, I wanted to go visit him in the hospital. Hooray for Ian McLean!
