I took this in Winter 2021. One of the easiest major electives I've ever taken! Professor Juvonen is incredibly understanding and her TA, Soph, was outstanding! Because of the online format of the class, the class format was that of a "flipped classroom" in which lectures were posted ahead of time and OPTIONAL discussions were held in place of the normal lecture times.

The grade breakdown is as follows:
- 15% participation (completing a short, UNGRADED "quiz" via Google Forms after watching lecture videos, as well as completing a pre and post class survey; need to do 15/18 times)
- 85% exam grades (2 non-cumulative midterms and 1 cumulative final with the LOWEST of them dropped, so technically if you do well on the first 2 exams like I did you don't need to take the final at all.)
-1% SONA extra credit

Overall, this class wasn't bad at all. There's readings assigned each week that may feel like a lot, but honestly I didn't really do most of the readings and got by fine. The exams were okay too; some questions are tricky and require that you did pay attention in lecture and know which authors/people were associated with which concepts! I recommend taking good notes and focusing on the lectures, as well as filling out the study guides that Dr. Juvonen provides ahead of time. The professor and the TA were also both very kind and very focused on helping students learn and accommodate for any needs. As long as you put in a bit of effort and watch the lectures you'll be fine.

Professor Juvonen is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's also one of the best people I've ever met. She genuinely cares about her students and it shows so much in her class. She is so knowledgable and doesn't leave any stones unturned when talking about adolescent development. Most of the studies that she uses in class as evidence are studies that she herself conducted, not because she's showing off, but because she's just that freaking good. If you don't take this class you are not fully taking advantage of your experience at UCLA.

She is actually one of the HARDEST AND RUDEST professors I've ever had in my entire undergraduate career. I'm a straight A student and I work pretty hard! She made the class so hard and she was Rude. I was very disappointed!

This was my least favorite class and MY LEAST FAVORITE PROFESSOR! I still remember this person. During her office hours she yelled at me and she is such a rude human being that after many years, I still remember her.

Prof Juvonen is a great professor and keeps her lectures engaging. She loves to teach and see her students do well so it is a very encouraging environment. Def take this class with her.

This class has about 2 readings per week and 2-4 recorded lecture videos (~20 minutes each). Tbh I didn't do any readings or watch the lectures until the week leading up to the exam and just took notes on them for reference. I did the readings the first time but they're really dense sometimes so I ended up only reading half of them for the second exam. The study guides offered prior each exam is pretty helpful to guide your studying so I recommend looking over it briefly at least and attempting to answer the questions.
Professor Juvonen genuinely does care about student learning and hosts a lot of office hours and review sessions leading up to each exams and after too for any questions. She also gives 1 point extra credit for participating in a SONA study.
There are 3 exams, but only the highest two scores are taken so you can opt out of the last final if you are content with your previous two exams. I got 40/43 on the first two exams and opted out of the final exam.

Prof Juvonen is delightful. She's so sweet, understanding & friendly. The content of the lectures, which are recorded, is pretty interesting & she explains it really well. She does assign some weekly readings which can sometimes be strenuous, but some people in the class didn't do the readings and did fine. The exams were pretty good in my opinion, and they're open book open notes. After each lecture, there are some questions to answer & they're based on completion, so you get 15% of your grade just answering these Qs. She also offers 1 extra credit point for participating in a SONA study.
Overall, its definitely possible to get an A in this class if you put in the work, and if you do take it, definitely take it with Juvonen!

Juvonen is such a wonderful professor and person! Her interactive sessions are really fun and she cares about her students a lot! I really attending all of them and found the material to be relatively easy to grasp.
She takes the highest two exams out of three, which gives you a chance to get a feel of how her exams are like without any penalties. I found the material to get easier as the class goes on. It is important to pay attention to her lectures and really trying to grasp the information. Otherwise, this class was really interesting and I would highly recommend it to everyone!
TAKE THIS CLASS!

Sweet professor and the topics covered are super interesting. Is a great way to fulfill column B. Fair warning, the class relies on tests and participation only so if that is not your thing, be aware. I thought the tests were pretty fair and the average was a B+ for the final. I would take this with a harder class since it is pretty straightforward and easy.

I took the honors section that goes with this course and I found it SO worthwhile. It was really lovely getting to know the other people in the class and Dr. Juvonen. I really feel like she'll remember who we are even in a few years and she made it clear she was invested in us :). It was really clear that everyone in the honors section and the course overall had so much love for Dr. Juvonen.

I'm a senior psych major and Dr. Juvonen has to be one of the best profs I've ever had. She cares SO DEEPLY about her students and our learning, honestly I've never quite seen a professor value her teaching so much. I found the class super super interesting and I loved how she always contextualized things in terms of systemic barriers, cultural differences, discrimination, and policy/systemic reforms (you can tell she takes a lot of time thinking about how different studies and issues apply to people of color, people in the LGBT+ community, etc). She's also very skilled at teasing apart how methodology works in research and figuring out where exactly students might get confused. She can tell exactly where she lost you and make sure you get there.

During covid, she had us do mini quizzes (graded for completion) twice a week just to make sure we watch the prerecorded lectures. Then we had completely optional interactive sessions twice a week. I only went once or twice but attendance was pretty high and I wish I'd gone. Two noncumulative midterms and an optional final. People felt that the exams were difficulty/tricky but tbh all i did to study was rewatch the lectures and take notes on my computer, and i did really well on them. To be clear, we were allowed to reference our notes during the tests, and most people finished the tests with a lot of time leftover.

Usually I struggle to get an A in these standard multiple choice-based psych classes cause I'll study really hard and then end up getting ~88s on the tests because of the semantics, but that really wasn't an issue for me with this class.

She also offered a bit of extra credit for SONA and for doing the course eval so i thought it was a decently easy A if you did the work, at least during COVID.
