Quarter: Summer 2018

I took Physics 5B, which is the equivalent to Physics 6C. Professor Pau is pretty good. She's entertaining, funny, and her lecture were pretty clear, from the ones I attended. That said, she uploads her slides and most examples on CCLE, so you don't have to attend lecture. I attended probably a total of ten out of the thirty lectures and still did well in the class. Discussion wasn't too helpful for this quarter, so I did not attend any after the first either. Homework and Quizzes are on MasteringPhysics and Chegg comes in really handy for that. Textbook is not necessary at all, just like with the rest of the series. Her tests are extremely straight-forward and fair; her midterm was pretty easy to be honest and her final was not hard. She also allows cheat sheets. Do her practice tests and examples to study, as a bulk of the questions are adapted from those of such style. Top 15% gets As, while the mean lies at a B, so her grading is pretty lenient. She also offers extra-credit later on. For material, I think this class was the most challenging for the entire Physics 5 series. I took Physics 5A and 5C beforehand and I think this class had the most math-intensive material. The only thing you need to know from Physics 5A for this class is Newton's Second Law. Labs are more similar to 5A, such that you have to do a pre-lab and post-lab and submit on Gradescope, as opposed to 5C's in-lab worksheet; however, pre-lab is graded on completion rather than correctness, unlike 5A, so that's nice. Overall pretty good class, would recommend taking it over the summer with Pau. Workload is pretty light, I took this class with a CS class, studied the day before for the midterm and final, and still managed to ace the class. I'm also bad at physics, given I almost failed 5A, so I guess that says a lot.

One of the best physics professor! After 6B, I know that physics is not for me. Hahahaha! But professor Pau made me enjoy (a little bit) of Physics. The midterm is very doable. Final is a bit hard, but still doable. Take physics with her! You will not regret it ^_^

PS. I'm really bad with Physics, but I got an A in her class.

Physics 6C is way easier than 6B and maybe even easier than 6A. That said, this class was a chore because of how unengaging the class is. Don't get me wrong, Pau is a nice person and definitely not a bad professor but everything is very by the numbers and overall I didn't enjoy the class that much because of it.

The midterm for this class was ridiculously easy. The average was an 89 which is absurd for a physics class. Like most people have said, the final is where she gets you. It is much more difficult than the midterm IMO but not impossible. Most of the questions are doable but there are just a few very tricky ones.

The labs suck as per usual. Just follow along with the manual and you'll get through alright.

She gives homework out of the book and she gives quizzes which are from masteringphysics. Don't bother going to discussion and just study on your own.

Overall this class certainly wasn't a nightmare like 6B was. It was just really average in all aspects. I'd still recommend Pau though

Dr. Pau, is in my opinion, probably the most average professor I've had. She gets the info across and is pretty thorough I suppose during lectures, but the class is not engaging at all, nor does it get me particularly excited about physics. I think part of it just has to do with the fact that Physics 6C (and 5C in the future) teaches a bunch of miscellaneous crap with little to no flow other than a couple topics about light and optics.

The material is ridiculously easy, especially to the level of understanding she wants you to have it at. The midterm was an absolute joke, with an average of an 89, which is unheard of. Her final was a bit tougher, and a couple questions tested if you actually knew what was going on rather than memorizing how to do the questions, which I know most lifescience people tend to do, but overall, the final was OK.

(Disclaimer: I'm not a lifescience person, I started this series and changed majors to physical science but they forced me to finish the series).

The class was so easy that I lost motivation for the class and hardly paid attention in lecture. Literally one or two formulas dictate almost everything that you'll learn in the class, so if you know the mirror equation, constructive destructive interference phase differences, and buoyancy, you'll be fine.

HOWEVER, her syllabus states only 15% of people will get an A+ or A, which you can see on the grading data on this website. 30 people dropped the class as soon as that syllabus came out, which means only 90 people, or less than 15 people getting A's. I'm not sure if that happened this session, but it isn't the best thing hanging over your head. Every point matters, buy a Chegg account, bullshit the Mastering Physics quizzes, get a good lab TA or fight for your points, look up the solutions manual. A surprising amount of people "couldn't keep up" with the quizzes because they didn't know you could look up the answers online as you were taking them.

Even if you take care of the small stuff, you need to still understand what the hell is going on, or else you won't be ready for that final.

Dr. Pau herself is a super nice person who cares about the class, she's a tiny little Asian lady who talks fairly fast, maybe it was just the class itself I didn't like, but I don't think I would take another class with her.

Overall, this class was a very positive experience.
Pau gives a lot of room for improvement and if a student is deficient in one category over another, there are other ways to make up for it.
The homework and quizzes were very straightforward, with the homework being calculation based and the quizzes being conceptually based.
The Midterms were average. As long as you pay attention in lecture and follow the examples she uses, it should be simple. Make sure to use all the resources that she puts on CCLE as they're a huge help.
The Final Exam was really tough. As someone posted earlier, there really is no way to be fully prepared for this exam. Do well on the Midterms so your stress for the final is much lower.
The Discussion Sections, in my opinion, were not helpful at all. The TA's spent time going over things that weren't very pertinent to the class and it gave no additional information that wasn't already covered in lecture.
Her accent can sometimes be a little hard to follow, but overall sit in the front so you can see her handwriting, and pay attention.
Her class is catered to the MCAT, which means that she will avoid certain sections in the textbook if it is not necessary. This makes the class pretty easy to follow and keep up with.

Overall, I would recommend this professor to a friend and take another class that she teaches.

Overall, I really enjoyed this professor. Her lectures made the material very clear. Or perhaps that's just how it felt like after taking 6B lol. Yea, the material is definitely easier to understand than in 6B, but the professor is also wonderful herself.

As for the exams, I thought that the midterms were very much doable. As long as you could do the examples that she did in class yourself, you should be fine for the midterms. But as for the finals, I don't think you will be fine for it no matter how hard you study. I thought that the problems were a lot more difficult. Also the grading on the exam gives a good amount of partial credit.

Surprisingly, this class was not that bad. I took two classes during the summer, 6C and Sociology 1. It turned out that 6C was easier for me. I guess that's because the professor explained the material very well. Also, I thought the tests were very fair. I took Niemann for 6A and 6B. I would say that Pau is a bit less difficult. Her exams are what you would expect based on lecture. Nothing too crazy. I highly recommend taking her!

Pau was a very good professor. Super nice and willing to help you out. She mainly teaches during the summer, but just take her for physics whenever she comes up, I took her for 6C during the summer so my experience may vary from a class she may teach during the quarter.

As you would expect, the exams are less difficult from the typical ones you take during the quarter. I would guess that the exams were merely designed to see if you understand the material at a fundamental level. It's pretty much based on her lectures. The average for the midterms were around 79% which is pretty high. I never heard what the average for the final was, but I am assuming that is was lower. The final was a bit trickier.

Homework and quizzes were sometimes difficult. Get yo smart friends.

I would recommend going to discussion only if you can find a good TA. Otherwise, just use that time to study on your own.

Lab was pointless. I couldn't even understand the material because the material in lab was ahead of lecture. Just follow the lab manual and hope you get a good lab instructor.
