Take 100A with professor Stigler, you will not regret it! He is such a helpful and understanding professor.
Class breakdown:
5 quizzes (every even week): 40%
Homework: 15%
Participation (this is optional, but if you choose not to participate, quizzes and final will be weighed heavier): 15%
Final: 30% (he made this optional!!)
Great professor overall and I have learned a lot from him, and I'm so glad I learned how to use and navigate in R!

Stigler is a great professor! He's the best professor to take Psych 100A with!
I really enjoyed having him and he explains the material really well!
Although I found some of his quizzes to be rather difficult, he drops the lowest quiz and even made the final optional this quarter!
Overall, the class was interesting and I would highly recommend him!

Going through the textbook chapters for homework can be tedious, but it isn't too bad. There are open note quizzes every other week (untimed, essentially 24hr) and the final was also open for 24 hours. Attending lecture was not mandatory, although extra credit was given if you did attend and fill out the Jupyter notebook for the day. Overall, Psych 100A is a pretty easy class (even more so if you've already taken Stats 13) and the coding isn't that complicated. Stigler is a very understanding professor whose teaching is clear and straightforward, and I recommend taking this class with him!

Amazing professor and class. Everything is spot-on. However, Stigler can sometimes struggle to deliver a certain concept in a clear and concise manner. Otherwise he's extremely accommodating and attentive.

Study tips: take DETAILED notes on Jupyter while paying EXTRA amount of attention in class. His usually tests only on concepts covered / emphasized in class. Obviously the HW is also important, but it's way too time-consuming to go through entire chapters to review for quizzes.

Stigler is a super chill professor! I came into this class with no statistic background at all and I was able to do well in this class. The textbook is embedded in CCLE so you don't have to buy anything! There are also some videos that help break down some more theoretical concepts. I would 10/10 take this course again with him.

I love Professor Stigler and his Psych 100A. This class is easy because Professor explains materials that are tested clearly during lectures. After taking this class, I feel like I am prepared for R coding and future Psychology researches. Taking this class with Professor Stigler!

Overall, I enjoyed taking this class with Stigler and the two TA's: Laura and Mary. Stigler is very patient and understanding, maybe even to a fault (because people will abuse the anonymous online questions form and ask for clarification on things that maybe they should have asked about in person rather than wasting an entire lecture of 200+ students' time). However, I appreciate the time he and the TA's take to make sure that everyone understands the material.

The material for this class is based on the free online Canvas textbook. Exercises are due weekly. And the amount due each week varies, so pace yourself. In addition, the homework exercises are graded on completion (thank you so so much). This quarter we used the program jupyternotebooks, which is where all the coding practice and quizzes are submitted. This class uses the programming language R and you will be given a "cheatsheet" of sorts, so there is no heavy memorization in the class. Most importantly, you will be tested on application and understanding of the concepts behind the code you write.

There is no midterm for this class, so grades are primarily determined from the biweekly coding quizzes and the final. There are also extra credit opportunities. Honestly, it's an easy class as long as you take the time to understand the homework (but also try not to let yourself get caught up on the convoluted explanations the textbook gives).

Stigler is amazing! Such a clear lecturer and the TAs, Laura and Mary, were amazing as well. His online textbook (free) is very helpful and although it is flipped classroom, he still goes over enough in class where it isn't dependent on you understanding all the material on your own. He drops 1/4 of the quizzes, and has two grading schemes based on whether you want to come to class and have participation count or not. Although you are given a cheat sheet for every exam, but through doing the homework and exercises you start to memorize most of the codes which made the final seem like a breeze since you do it so often.

Take this class with Stigler! He was really helpful and explained the concepts really well. Also the TAs (Mary and Laura) were amazing and so nice. They were always patient, even when having to explain the same concepts over and over.

The thing about Psych 100A is you do most of the learning from the online textbook so if you stay on top of the chapters, this class should be pretty easy. Also, the homework from the online textbook is just for completion not correctness. I would suggest reviewing over it or taking notes on it to help with studying for the quizzes/final. We had four quizzes and the lowest grade was dropped. There was no midterm, but a final. I got A/A+ on all my quizzes and a B+ my final so I got an A on the class. There were also extra credit opportunities. Overall, I would recommend Stigler and don't have any complaints.

Wowwww.. Where to even begin with Stigler.. I came into this class scared as hell because math has never been my thing and the name of this course freaked me out, but it is a required class for me so I had to dive into it. I can honestly say that Prof. Stigler is one of THE best professors on campus (alongside Jay Phelan for LS 15). Stigler really does invest time and effort to help his students.. he truly does and it shows. He welcomes everyone to his office hours and he is truly welcoming-- I felt I had some pretty dumb questions but he constantly assured me that no question was "dumb." He explained to the full extent. The TAs are OUTSTANDING -- specifically Gerald and Mary. They have an insane amount of patience and dedication to helping students out.. I wish every TA at UCLA was as understanding, patient, passionate, dedicated, committed as these two. Back to Stigler-- his curriculum is just great. Initially, I thought that because majority was based on an online system (Canvas), it'd be a disaster bc who really learns from a computer vs a teacher? Well, Stigler did excellent at integrating the online modules to his lectures. He is just such a kind man. When a teacher enjoys their job/is committed to teaching appropriately, it SHOWS.. and I saw this all the way through with Stigler. He did the most to help us understand the topics. I feel that if it was some other professor teaching this course, I would have been bald by the end of the quarter from pulling my hairs out. Stigler, if you are reading this.. I acknowledge you for your hard work.. Trust me, it does not go unrecognized. Anyone sitting in your lectures is blessed. You are a professor who gets his job done the right way. I respect you.
