Professor Woo is probably the easiest professor to take this class with. If you took other professor's exams, professor Woo's exams are like a walk in the park.
If you really want to get into semiconductors, his class is very valuable because he talks about real world challenges and limitations about semiconductors. He knows so much about the industry, he's like a walking dictionary.

That said, if you just want to get over with the class, here's the game plan:
1) you don't have to attend lectures. they will bore you.
2) go to discussion sessions. there were problems from the discussion session that were exactly on the MT and final. No one goes so naturally, only those who went for discussion got those right.
3) google a lot. This is going to happen a lot because his slides/notes hide the equations from plain sight.

Lastly, even if you do terrible in hw and MT, if you do well in the final, you stand a chance of getting a good grade! don't give up and good luck!

Rundown of his class:
1st hour:talking about his past, asking every student question like, where are you come from, etc.

2nd hour:unclear lecture.

Textbook is highly recommended, lecture is optional.

Oh, one more thing, don't take homework and midterm too seriously, because only the final matters.

DO NOT let these ratings dissuade you from taking this guy! He was no where near the worst professor I've had at UCLA, and in fact, I was surprised with how much I actually learned in this class (EE121B) considering how little I learned in EE2...

Now with that being said here's what you can expect taking 121B with Jason Woo:

1) (Somewhat) intimidating lectures - I think this is where the negative reviews come from... Woo will point you out in class to answer questions. You'll feel dumb if you get one wrong, so... you probably have to grow a pair? (Or you can try to find a blind spot, so he doesn't call on you - front row's actually a good bet).

Side note: I actually enjoyed these lectures - he throws in some interesting semiconductor history stuff, and likes to yell about how dumb people/companies have been.

2) Fair grading - he knows that this class is hard, and that not everyone is going into the semiconductor fabrication industry. The midterm and final distribute around 40%, but he puts the average around a B.

3) VERY difficult tests and HW... but with fair grading.

4) Powerpoints online (really not a bad deal, when you're allowed to bring them to the tests...)

Professor Woo simply doesn't care about the undergraduates. His lecture slides are the mathematical derivation of the semiconductors formulas. if you go to his office hours he will intimidate you in many ways and he never discuss and grade related issues. His lectures are hard to follow he out too much in your plate and expects you know everything. BUT he is a fair grader if you try hard for this course you will get a decent grade.
