I am very fond of him as a person and professor. I have had him for multiple classes. He does speak very quickly, which some students have complained about. However, as a non-native speaker, I never had trouble understanding him. People have complained about the amount of reading he gives. I don’t think it was anymore or less than I was assigned by other professors. He is a little scattered. Sometimes he would ask us to read one thing and then give a lecture about another. Nevertheless, the midterm and final were easy. If you pay attention in class, he will basically give you all the answers in lecture. The key is to pay attention to those things which he repeats. He is extremely passionate about the subjects he teaches. I enjoyed his enthusiasm and love of music (he would often play music to put us in the headspace of the time period). I highly recommend him as professor. If you are struggling, he is always willing to help.
this class was very overwhelming and challenging. I am practically bilingual in french and found this level of french too difficult. The readings are long and hard and the Carron lectures exclusively in French. He was a nice guy and when I could follow along his lectures were interesting but do not take this class unless you have a very high level of French. I gave up on this class just before the midterm because I did not want to tank my GPA
Prof. Carron is very concerned with students progress, if the student is himself/herself concerned. For 114 A, there is a lot of reading and the reading assignments and/or which books to bring to class are not very clear. Midterm and Final are straight forward questions that require paragraph answers. Final paper is also required because the 5 units are not supported by a discussion group. Prof. Carron is very knowledgeable and very kind. A true gentleman. I got an A.
