This course is generally easy. He gives out three types of "quizzes"- in lecture, discussion and take home. They are all open note, open book and open neighbor so its easy to score high on them. However, be careful of the midterm and finals. STUDY FOR THEM!!! Overall, some of the material is a little dry but its an easy GE.

I took this class along with the lab. If you take this class definitely do the lab because it is just an extra 4 assignments (which are the only 4 assignments you will have to do in the class). The class is gets really boring, but easy to remember the material. Take it for an easy GE.

This professor is very anal about his work and how he wants you to submit work. I took the lab with the lecture as well and he expects students to submit their original files via email or cd to him so that he can verify its an original. However, if your submissions are not compatible with his then he takes off points for it. How dumb is that? He's pretty anal about a lot of things in the class. There are in lecture quizzes, discussion quizzes, take home quizzes, as well as a midterm and final. His powerpoint slides that he has on the class website is not helpful because they contain very little information. You have to go to lecture to understand them. He does a pretty good job explaining the concepts however, some quiz questions could be things that are not on the slides but things that he says verbally, as if you are going to remember them anyways. If you're north campus, this class isn't too difficult compared to other science classes. Just attend lecture and take very detailed notes in class. They will be helpful.

Good professor. Can be a bit anal at times with his rules as to exactly what to write on quizzes and whatnot, but I actually found that to be humorous. He's a fairly interesting lecturer that really knows his stuff. The material in the class is very simple. As long as you look over his lecture slides and review the answers to the quizzes, you'll ace the midterm and the final. The lab is also a piece of cake. Overall, I highly recommend taking Prof. Lew's AOS3 class. One of the easiest GE's you'll ever have.

Initially I thought he was a little intimidating. But he's a great professor, you know, the kind that doesn't seem really nice but makes the material very interesting. He can be pretty funny at times too. Science is one of my least favorite subjects but I found his class one of the more interesting ones. The quizzes are open-book and neighbor, his lectures are online, the online quizzes will prep you for the midterms well. Basically even if you don't get the lectures, print out his online notes and you'll do well. Although I started off intimidated by the material and thought I wouldn't do well, just calm down, read over his notes, and it's really not that difficult. Two extra credit quizzes boosted my grade an extra 5% and ended up with a solid A.

It's an easy way to get a lab out of the way. However, I thought Professor Lew was anal and just rude, and a pretty horrible teacher. The material is painfully boring and everyone there could barely stay awake in lecture. I would honestly not recommend this class unless it is something that really interests you. There are other GEs.

Prof. Lew was great, in the sense that his class was easy. All of his quizzes, in-lecture, in-discussion, and take-home, are very simple and super easy because they are all open note, open book, open neighbor. You should be guaranteed almost 100% in quizzes.

So, the only thing you really have to worry about at all are the midterm and final -- but I found that they were very straightforward and easy. He basically re-uses the same questions as on the quizzes for his fill-in-the-blank section, so just memorize those, and you're guaranteed 100% on half of the midterm. As for the multiple choice sections, just study the lecture slides a bit, and you'll do great. He posts all of his lecture slides online, as well as podcasts of his lectures. I'd say that the only real work you have to do for this class is go to lecture and stay awake so you'll know what you're doing on the midterm/final.

As for the Professor himself, I'd say he's a little weird, and has a lot of pet peeves. But his lectures are straightforward and usually pretty easy to understand. I've read that he's cold, but others have said he isn't. I'd say he's pretty neutral actually, but why would it matter anyways? I don't think I've had to speak to him even once the whole quarter, and his class is an easy A, so just take it if you need a science GE or if you want to boost your GPA or get some extra units.

He really was cold. Last year I thought he was just moderately senile, but then (during finals of all times) a close family member of mine was passing away: I e-mailed Lew and asked if I could take the final early or later than designated so I could get them all over with on the same day and go see my family. He replied that the final date is set and cannot be changed. One sentence, followed by his name. Enough said.

Lew gives quizzes that do absolutely nothing towards helping students learn. Everyone just copies answers out of the book, and no knowledge is actually acquired until the midterm or final studying. It's funny to see this little guy strutting around the stage, though. Ask to see his watch. Easy A.

im not a south campus major nor will i ever take another science class in my life BUT this class was easy. open book, open note, open NEIGHBOR tests/quizzes. the only thing you have to semi-study for are the midterms/finals (unlike all those other classes where you have a midterm the second week of the quarter, this one actually has its midterms THE MIDDLE OF THE TERM).

LAB:
theres an optional lab with this course which you have to enroll in as a class. the lab is like a 10 minute homework assignment. it basically asks you questions about what you learned and apply it...go to your TAs office hours and you shold be fine.

READING:
reading isnt difficult and if you missed any of it (i missed 95% of the reading), your TAs should go over it with you. your TAs are lifesavers

if youre just in it for the GE like i was, take this class. youd be stupid not to.

dr. lew is really passionate about the weather so be prepared for some "fun" (aka...sleep) times!!!
