Quarter: Winter 2021
Grade: A

Professor Share is my favorite professor by far. He provides engaging lectures and brings in speakers each week. He is super supportive and understanding, he really wants what is best for his students. I learned so much during this class and enjoyed every second of it. Professor Share did one-on-one 10 minute entrance and exit interviews to meet us which I thought was really nice because professors never really do this kind of stuff. The readings were interesting and related to the topics we discussed each week. There was groupwork but it was honestly really easy because we assigned each other different sections. There are small projects throughout the quarter and a midterm and final essay. The final essay was basically a revision of our midterm essay but with a broader analysis. I highly recommend this class!

Quarter: Winter 2024
Grade: A

Honestly a very useless class. Extremely easy and I'd be surprised if anyone got lower than an A; it's entirely graded for completion, so if you show up to class and do assignments you'll get a good grade. But the class is way too wishy-washy.

There is no real content. Hardly anyone does the readings, and even if you do them, they are useless. Entirely social-justice oriented; certainly an important topic, but there is no real content about the teaching profession, pedagogical strategies, career paths, etc. Basically every lecture is some version of "our system is horrible and racist and hurts most students," but the only solutions offered a complete overhaul of how we educate, which won't happen in our lifetimes. Would be nice if he actually attempted to give students resources to be good teachers within the current systems; we are going to go teach kids, and not everyone can change the world. Would have more of an impact to learn strategies to succeed in the world we live in.

Prof Share is very dismissive of anyone with opinions viewing from his own (even when such opinions are as evidence-backed as his). E.g. if you say you think there's a place for grades in schools, he'll talk to you like you're crazy. The guest speakers were the only asset to this class. It is disappointing how many education classes are completion based without real content. Not really enabling future teachers to be knowledgable and hard-working, but if you need an easy A, this is certainly it. Just get ready to be bored out of your mind.

Really great class, would take again, its very fun and engaging. I'm sad this quarter is over. Professor Share is really engaging and knowledgeable. A great teacher and I hope to take another class with him one day. TA Michael was also really cool and smart too.

Jeff did a wonderful job creating a welcoming and equitable classroom. His kindness made me want to try my best in the course, even though the grading made it clear that the course was low stakes.

love love love love PROFESSOR SHARE. He truly cares about his students and loves his job. I have never felt more supported at UCLA than when taking his courses. I have gained so much. He goes out of his way to get to know you. His class is extremely accessible and not like any courses at UCLA. TAKE HIS CLASSES. any of them. doesn't matter. He makes every course fun

Professor Share is definitely my favorite professor at UCLA; I've yet to have another instructor who values student engagement as much as he does. The low stakes, reasonable workload, and accessible readings allow us to prioritize learning over grades and affording the course materials. Throughout the quarter, there are many activities that allow students to interact and establish a sense of community among each other and express our comprehension of the material through a multitude of creative modes: TikTok, memes, drawing, photography, podcasting, etc. As for the curriculum itself, everything we've learned is easily applicable to the world. Because of this course, I've noticed major improvements in my abilities to think critically, detect media bias, and comprehend how media either challenges or perpetuates assumptions about various social groups. If you ever get the opportunity to take this class (or any other class) with Share, I highly recommend it!
