This was the second class for the Food Cluster, and in this class it lowkey got more science-y, but we still had to do a lot of writing, especially for the final paper. Like the first class with Professor Cleveland, the quizzes and tests were not too bad and the assignments were fine. The lectures were eh, but Professor Jay is really, really sweet and the whole teaching staff for this cluster really cares about you and super encouraging, never once did I feel like the vibes were off, everyone is super duper nice! The only thing I didn't understand was the LCA conversions, I'm pretty sure it's pretty basic math stuff, but I just genuinely suck at math. But dont worry, if you're like me, the most non-stem person ever, you'll pass everything with flying colors. I chose the same TA, Narayan, again for this quarter and he's pretty chill as well. The teaching staff aren't that strict and lowkey pretty lenient.
But as a class overrall, it was pretty good and I enjoyed it. Really easy and fun way to get rid of the science GE's. Only thing was that the class is at 9 in the morning and I physically couldn't wake up any earlier than 8:30 am.
This is the continuation of the food cluster, and while it's still amazing and better than the rest of the clusters, the material becomes slightly more challenging. I still highly recommend, because it's the best way to knock out a bunch of GEs freshman year while having one class to worry about during registration (because you're guaranteed a spot all three quarters). It's just something to be aware of, as the writing demands grow and the content becomes more challenging. The professors are still amazing!
Jenny obviously cared a lot about her work and was very knowledgeable about the course material. But she was often very unorganized. She was a little bit hard to follow sometimes and would lose my and other students' attention as a result sometimes. On the other hand, her in-person displays were very engaging. I loved the display of the Earth and ocean acidification. For the most part, in person lectures were more engaging and online lectures were difficult. I would take this class again and my other professor was great. Easy. Wish it has all been in person.
