This was an enjoyable class for me. Professor Sladeck's slides were well put together and he is a very engaging lecturer. This is a heavy subject, and Professor Sladeck handles it well. The class comprised of three essays based on reading and lectures. The class requires you to read and write a fair amount, roughly 5-6 books, and the first essays were 5-6 pages, and the last was 8-9 pages. Sladeck gives clear instructions for formatting and essay structure, which you must follow to get a good grade. However he is extremely helpful in office hours and as long as you are diligent in following instructions you will be fine. Not necessarily an easy course in content or work, but a rewarding one and doable if you are focused. He does not post lectures so in person attendance is required as you must quote lectures in the essays.
