Like so funny and weird class. Each time that you get a correct answer you get a ridiculous encouragement. I never went to lectures but I still mostly managed even though I am not a big coding person. I highly recommend taking stats 10 before this class so that you have a good R background. Also the professor was funny. The labs are dumb though hahah. Not that much work mostly doing the textbook.
great class for 100A, fully recommend
I thought Professor Trott was a great professor and really wanted to make sure all his students understand his course. I joined in two weeks into the quarter and he reached out to make sure I would catch up which I thought is very thoughtful and considerate of him. There were some terminology that I wasn't aware of and when he used them, I get lost in the lectures. However, I thought the class was easy and manageable if you made the effort. I would love to take him again!
Professor Trott is an engaging and passionate lecturer. I was initially nervous to take this class because I did not enjoy/do well in Psych 110 with a different professor. But Professor Trott provides extremely enthusiastic and clear lectures that actually made the material so much more understandable and enjoyable for me. He is very accommodating: he gives lectures in person & live streams on Zoom & posts the recordings. Your grade is 20% weekly online quizzes (only 10 questions each) that you have unlimited attempts on. The remaining 80% are 3 "midterms" and 1 final. They're all non-cumulative and consist of 5 short-answer questions. The nature of the exam format is a little daunting because they're all short-answer responses but I was able to get an 100 on each exam by just rewatching lecture recordings and spending time reviewing my notes and the study guide he provides. Overall, highly recommend taking this class or any other class Professor Trott teaches!!! 10/10
Dr. Trott is an awesome lecturer. Taking this course over the summer was very tough for me personally as I was enrolled in other courses while participating in a summer research program and working. We had 3 exams (exam every 2 weeks). However, I believe that if I had taken this during a normal quarter, I could have pulled off a better grade. Trott is very nice, accommodating, and an engaging lecturer. The content is very confusing but Trott gives many real-life examples that really put things into perspective. The average for the first exam was a C and the last 2 exams had an average of around 84-86%. Exams are open note but don't be fooled, the exams are very challenging if you don't keep up with the lectures and really get yourself to understand the material. I think the exam questions can APPEAR to be pretty easy, but they will trip you up if you don't truly understand the material and what the question is really asking you. I was confident about my last exam and still (surprisingly) received a low C for my score. Again, I did have a lot of other things going on during this time so that affected my performance a lot. Also, I personally didn't enjoy this class because this is not my area of psych, but if you love this content or even just find it interesting, you should do just fine. This is his area of psych so he's really passionate about the material as well.
Overall: Trott is the best to take for PSYCH 110 and even PSYCH 115 because he's not trying to trick you with the exams and he's also very accommodating. He oversimplifies a lot of the material too so that you can better understand it and the exams are in line with his way of teaching. I recommend taking this course with lighter classes so you can really focus on understanding the material for this course.
Trott is an amazing lecturer and really made the material easy to understand despite how complex it can seem. He provides a good amount of material for practice that helps set up for the exam and it is very clear that he wants his students to succeed. If you can take this class with him, do it!
The professor is super nice and does his best to make the lectures engaging and interesting. I felt that the workload was very manageable. You do have to read the module before it is lectured in class and there are quizzes before and after each module, but the quizzes are easy, open note, and you can retake them as many times as you'd like. If you do the readings before class then the lecture itself is almost a review, so you see the content many times, which can get repetitive but it does make the course easier. The midterm and final were also online, open note, and you can take them in groups if you want. I found them very easy as long as you have been going to class and the labs so you know how to do the analysis. Overall I would recommend Trott, he's a really cool teacher and his class is very easy if you do the work.
This class is really interesting, and the professor does a great job on clearly discussing the topics involved without going too far in depth to where it becomes a solely neuroscience class. You study a lot of experiments and their outcomes.
For every test, there is a study guide and review session that is very helpful, and there were 4 non-cumulative exams throughout the quarter. Tests were very fair and free-response.
Highly recommend taking the class, especially with Trott. One of the most interesting and enjoyable classes I've taken so far.
if you have to take this class, take it w trott!! he's extremely helpful and understanding, always willing to take questions and explain something until you get it. after our first midterm, a lot of us didn't do as well as we wanted, so he curved it 10%+ and made the rest of the exams easier (imo). while exams are open everything, don't take this for granted. you really need to know the material of the class itself to do well. i think it got easier as the course went on bc the experiments we learned about are pretty similar and repetitive. trott assigns a book, but i never read it so i don't think you need to get it to succeed. as long as you put in the work this class should be fine, like i said the prof is there to help as much as possible so don't be intimidated!
Taking this class with him will be very interesting. Some courses are easy but boring but this one is not. It's challenging but is much more interesting than you think. Memorizing things without critical thinking won't guarantee you good grades. Note taking is very important.
