Prok Kowalik is one of the best profs I have had at UCLA. I am a science major so the topics of the class didnt come that easily to me. She truly cares about student learning and actually takes effort to make sure you get the best experience out of her class. You will get out of her class what you put into it.

I took Professor Kowalik's German M108 (Love and Sex in German Literature)class to fulfill the Literature in Translation requirement for the English major. It was absolutely one of my favorite classes. The reading selection was wonderful (Freude, Mann and Goethe, for example), as were the films shown both in and out of class (she had optional film nights complete with refreshments). Professor Kowalik's lectures were insightful and exciting. She is a fair grader who encourages independent thought. I learned a great deal in her class, and enjoyed myself in the process. Take her!

Her Nietzsche class will introduce you to one of world history's most profound and fascinating minds. Nietzsche is notoriously misunderstood, but professor Kowalik gets it right. Covering Nietzsche in one quarter is impossible. But what is introduced will more than shock most, and will entertain any one who is open minded enough to challenge their beliefs. She encourages student participation, and you will find yourself voicing your interpretation of the text. You'll be only partly right or wrong, no doubt, and she will add the missing piece of the puzzle that makes an already intriguing thought more so. If you're looking for a philosophy type class on Nietzche, this isn't quite for you. Overall though, very good professor and class.
