Prof Pang is awesome! He was always helpful in office hours and would sometimes give us the answers to homework problems. The class consisted of lectures, homework, and a Virtual Lab Report. The content of the course really wasn't too hard and the homework wasn't too hard either. The biggest thing would just be the significant figures, so make sure you're mindful of that. We had a midterm and a final and they were both 24 hours and both were fairly easy. I'm trying to take 14CL with Professor Pang in the future too!

I took Chem 14BL over the summer. There were no lectures for this class. Instead, we had to attend one mandatory workshop every week held by the TAs which were basically just regular discussion sections. We were assigned one short homework assignment and a lab per week, which were sometimes tedious but very doable. I never really got the chance to speak with the professor since I didn't go to office hours and there were no lectures, but I could tell that he really wants his students to succeed.

As for the exams, we had one midterm and one final that were open note and very straightforward. I had Joe Mazzetti as my TA and I highly recommend him. He was very lenient with grading and was always willing to discuss labs with us if we had a question about his grading. Definitely take this course with Professor Pang if you can!

And chemistry experiments for life science majors 4th edition by Russell and Pang
btw they're changing all the labs, you might waste your money buying old labs.

Easy class with way too much work. Pre-labs and post-labs are very time consuming and it makes me very sad. The midterm and final are high variance. Though the problems are relatively easy, misunderstanding one concept and cost you a lot of points. I misunderstood one concept and that cost me 10 points on the midterm. However, that is entirely my fault and if you pay attention and do the labs, you will be fine.

Though in the schedule it says the lab is 3 hours, realistically it is more like 1.5-2 hours

Overall, chem 14BL is very doable. Pang offers a lot of office hours for you to go to, although I have not ever been to one. The labs do not generally take the entire time, and the post lab reports are not that difficult. The midterm and the final are also not the super difficult side, and are very fair. I would recommend taking this class!

While 14bl is a review of 14a and b with application to lab experiments, I still found Pang's exams pretty challenging. He would sometimes ask us about obscure concepts from lectures or labs. Be sure to go over lecture material, understand lab concepts, and do his review guides.

(Pre-) Lab reports take a lot of time at first but get easier over time. It doesn't really matter how well you do the experiment. And as long as you do the study questions correctly it's easy to get all the points for the lab section of the grade.

He offers daily office hours, which is pretty great (but I never went to them :0)

This class honestly sucks. Professor Pang is super hand wavy during lecture, telling you to look at different things but he doesn't really explain much. The class is a lot of work with all the lab work due. Pang's instructions are super dense which makes it hard to read everything he posts for labs. Tests sucked, mostly because you lose points for the most ridiculous reasons. You could pretty much lose points for the most stupid reasons in every assignment for this class. Lecture is once a week for 50min, but his tests cover stuff way beyond the scope of what we learn in class, so it's up to you to do a lot of extra work to try and be prepared for tests. I guess the logic is that it's a review of 14A/B, but for someone who hasn't taken those classes in a while it sucks. Be prepared for one of the worst classes you could take at UCLA.
