Dr. Pang is amazing!! Lectures were asynchronous and posted beforehand, and his slides were very clear and detailed. Lab reports were also straightforward. Enrollment had two labs per week but one was just for OHs with your TA to ensure you could make it (which was very nice of him, i appreciate that), and the other was a 1-1.5 hour of regurgitated material presented by your TA instead of the prof (attendance mandatory, but that's literally ur only physical requirement of the week). Dr. Pang also makes weekly worksheets (not graded) specific to the week's topic so that we could have enough practice problems to prepare us for the exams, which were also super straightforward. he even sends weekly email reminders about deadlines so that we don't miss any! as long as you put in some effort, this class is super easy 10/10 would take Dr. Pang again.

Being that this is a lab class during the pandemic, this review may not be super helpful for people taking it in person. Lectures were posted weekly as recording of him speaking over slides, and while they were not the worst, they are not the most engaging. Take good notes and download his slides for later use. There were weekly homework assignments and lab reports, along with one writing assignment and a midterm and final. I think all assignments were fair in length and I recommend just knowing what is due each week. Discussion to only one lab was mandatory, and the other was treated as office hours. Dr. Pang also held office hours, and I heard that they were helpful. Overall, this class was not too difficult online, but the tests would definitely be more challenging in person.

Pang was the GOAT. Literally one of the most understanding professors in the chem department, as he understands students have other commitments and adjusts his class as needed to ensure you can get a good grade.

You might be overwhelmed at first to see the class schedule, but it's just 2 assignments due every week: one homework due on Tuesdays, and one VLR (Virtual Lab Report) due on Fridays. There is one writing assignment, but it's super easy.

Even when online, the class was interesting and applicable to real-life situations. The last assignment was about forensic science, which was pretty cool.

Take Chem14CL with Pang !!!

TAKE 14CL WITH PANG. From what I've heard from other 14CL professors, Pang is definitely the best one to take it with. I never spent more than 5 hours a week going over all of the lecture materials, finishing the weekly homework, and finishing the weekly lab assignments, but I still felt like I learned a lot from his class! He's a clear and concise lecturer, and very helpful overall. Exams weren't bad as long as you studied a bit. There is one writing assignment but it's very short (<800 words I think) and he provides an opportunity for extra credit!

This class has a lot of busy work every week (homework set + lab report), one writing assignment in like week 2 or 3, but lectures are pretty short and the homework/exams are very very straightforward.

I took this class with three other high-workload STEM classes and it was totally fine so not much to worry about workload-wise.

Super easy and Pang is great :))

THE BEST!! I was nervous to take this class because I was taking it at the same time as 14C and had no knowledge of ochem yet. Professor Pang teaches material so well and I learned so much. For the material from 14C that overlapped with 14CL, Professor Pang taught so much better. For online learning, there was a homework assignment, virtual lab, and workshop each week. The workshop with your TA involved working on a practice worksheet and it wasn't graded. The homework and virtual labs do a great job at preparing you for exams (as well as the optional practice problems). Professor Pang really cares about his students. I would highly recommend taking this class with him!

Given that I took this class online during the pandemic, things may change. However I found Pang to be a great and very accommodating professor.

I really liked the way he changed all the lecture into PowerPoint lectures and videos, so that we can follow along at our own pace. He is really good at teaching the material in a clear and concise way.

Every week (for summer) we had two written assignments to be uploaded on to CCLE, they were pretty long but were straightforward. There are only 4 workshops for the whole session that had required attendance. Exams are straightforward so long as you put in the work to understand the material and do the assignments. Pang is great!

I took 14CL with Pang as an online class in Spring 2020. Overall, as an online class, it was super easy. Your entire grade is comprised of weekly worksheets and two take home exams. Pang posts slides with audio at the beginning of each week so you can complete the work whenever you want. Overall, had a great experience and would recommend this class to others!

Taken remotely Spring 2020. This class was the most organized online class I took this quarter. Professor Pang was incredibly accommodating and I could tell that him and the TA's spent a lot of time and effort making the virtual lab materials and videos interesting and enjoyable. All of the lectures were given through narrated PowerPoints which were great for going at your own pace. Labs were videos of the TA's doing the experiment and we would be shown the data from the lab to analyze on our own. Even though we were technically enrolled for 7 hours of class (2 3-hr labs, 1 hr lecture) I don't think I spent more than 4 hours per week going through the all of the lecture materials and doing the lab reports. Easiest lab class I've taken at UCLA, highly recommend taking it with Pang.

Great professor, tho must've spend hundreds on paper and ink. Provides massive amounts of resources to succeed and his exams are very fair. Labs are also pretty chill and don't take longer than 1.5h to finish most of the time. Prelab and Postlab reports are boring and are just busy work, but I think that is expected of every lab class. Scores are also normalized across all TAs according to Pang. Overall should be easy class, labs do not take more than 1.5h (often take around 1 hour), there is busy work, plenty of resources, lots of office hours, good professor, decently fun labs, and there is 7.5 points of potential extra credit. Take 14CL with Pang!
