I took pang for both 14BL and 14CL, due to hearing from my friends that you can only get a B in pang's class I didn't really put any effort into the class, just copied my friend's, labs got around 50% on the midterm, and don't know what on the final, and I was very satisfied to get a B in 14BL considering I thought I would get a worse grade because I essentially put no effort in the class. However when I took 14CL I talked to a few people who said they’ve receive an A- in 14BL, so I assumed that it would be possible to receive in 14CL as long as I put in lots of effort. Well I did all the work myself and put many hours into doing the labs. Except for missing about 10 points on the accuracy section of the amino titration lab I usually got perfect scores on both my pre-labs and post labs, gotten about 72% on the midterm (average was around 66%) and about 70% on the final (average was ~65%) , did well on the CPR assignments and was expecting either an A- or atleast a B+, but ended up getting a B in the class. What really pissed me off was the people who didn’t put much effort and just copied old labs as well as those who did their own labs and understood the stuff basically ended up getting a B. Essentially try as you might or just copy old labs and don’t try; either way you’ll end up with a B because Pang’s grading scheme essentially guarantees that you wont get an A and Pang is an asshole, if you want a grade that reflects the time and effort you put into the class, take someone else for 14CL.

I don't understand why the majority of people hate him. He's one of my favorite teachers, though most people would disagree with me. His lectures are clear and easily understandable. If you just read his lecture notes, you'll do fine on the tests. Sometimes I would just get the handouts he gave us and leave. I do agree that his study guides don't help at all (especially for the first exam). However, it helped somewhat for the second exam, which was much easier. Pang is very friendly outside of class, and will even visit your labs to see how you're doing. He says he doesn't curve, but in the end, he did because the class did so bad. So don't feel too bad if you're not getting above a 90% if everyone else is doing bad as well. Your TA affects your grade a lot, so get a good one. Also, get someone's old labs. It's really helpful, though I realized that all TA's grade extremely differently. CPR's are dumb. If you do bad, you're not alone. But every lab class has them, so don't blame it on Pang. You won't learn a lot in this class, but it's pretty easy and straightforward. Exams are a lot easier than regular chemistry lecture classes.

Wow that's a lot of bashing on Pang. Well can't say I disagree with most of them. Yea..Pang is pretty tough. His exams are pretty hard and the practice exams he gave don't help that much. I mean they do tell you what will be on the test but the problems on the midterm and final will be totally different from the one given on the practice. I gotta admit his exams are hard I had problems with them. As for lab...if you have an easy TA it shouldn't be to bad. But in the end he does normalize the lab so it shouldn't matters too much if u have an easy ta or not. As a person i dont think Pang is that bad..he does try his best to help you out with labs and everything. He is genuinely a nice guy. One time I didn't get a chance to finish my lab and he was okay with it and told me to get data from another student to finish the lab report. He's a very understanding guy...only thing is his exams are HARD!!!!. I do think he's better than Russell..a lot more helpful than Russell. So I would recommend him over Russell. I'm pretty sure you're gonna have to take him now or later so my best advice is to do your best on the lab reports since they're a big part of your grade as for midterm and final...GOOD LUCK!!

I think Dr. Pang is awsome. He's amazingly good at lectures. If you pay attention and listen to what he says in lecture, and then go to his review session, you'll know everything you need to know for his final. He's extremely friendly and always welcoming people to his office hours. Yes, the pre and post labs are a lot of work, but if you do them correctly you'll understand the concepts and the test will come natually to you. Those who don't do well are probably copying old labs and not trying to understand them. Really Dr. Pang's a great professor. His test are not hard, it's the fundamentals that you should know from other classes anyways... His test are really easy if you know the basics. He's a great professor I can't stress this enough.
