Nothing compares to this class and Prof. Pang. The class is super direct, straightforward, and easy. The labs all come with thorough instructions so you know exactly what the TAs/professor wants. My TA Ruoxi was very nice and our discussion sections were around 40 min. There are tons of office hours and both my TA and Professor Pang responded to emails pretty fast.
Professor Pang has organized this course so well that is is so easy to stay on top of assignments, and even get far ahead. Personally, I really enjoyed the structure of the course because although there is always an assignment or two to be working on, they are not difficult at all. There are also so many different office hours that you can go to if you need clarification. Professor Pang and all the TAs are very encouraging and you can tell they really want us to succeed. Overall, the course was very well organized, the assignments were easy, and the professor and TAs are very helpful. All you need to do is make sure that you are on top of things and you are pretty much set for an A in this class. I would definitely recommend taking the class with Professor Pang and I would totally take another class with him in the future!
This class was literally the one class that I did not have to worry about my grade in because it was so easy and chill. Professor Pang is the best and really cared for his students. The workload is pretty light with only a homework assignment and lab report due every week. For our grade, there were 4 categories: participation/hw/lab reports, Writing assignment, midterm quiz, and the final quiz.
Participation/HW/Lab Reports: This category was the largest percentage of our grade and it included participation, which was for going to your lab workshops, the homework assignments, and the lab reports. The homeworks are pretty straightforward and simple and could be done in a day to be honest. The lab reports were not that bad either but some did take longer than others (any report that required Excel took a bit longer to complete because of graphing). Both of them were related to the lecture content for that week. Professor would post Powerpoint presentations with voiceovers for the lectures so it was asynchronous. Grading really depended on your TA and mine was pretty chill with grading so I scored pretty high on all of them. If a lab report is due on the day of a chem 20B midterm, he would postpone the due date for the lab report to the next week usually which was really nice of him.
Writing Assignment: I think this was like 5% of our grade so it really was not the biggest deal. Basically, he gives you a topic to write a short essay on (ours was about pulse oximeters) and he gives extra credit for this assignment. The worst part of this assignment was honestly just reading the article needed. Once you read it, it was pretty easy to complete.
Midterm Quiz: He gave us 24 hours to complete the midterm. It went over topics from week 1 up until that week and was straightforward. If you have been doing the homeworks and lab reports then the midterm should be fine for you.
Final quiz: Same as the midterm quiz and was cumulative. Again, if you have been paying attention in class then there is no reason not to do well on it.
Professor Pang taught this class very well and I cannot wait to have him again in the future! You will not regret taking this class!
Dr. Pang is an extremely accommodating professor and made 20L enjoyable (or as enjoyable as an online chem lab course can be). He always responded to my emails very quickly, and even pushed back due dates around 20B exams. The work itself isn't difficult, just can be time consuming based on how long the lab report is each week. If you start early, though, the class is very manageable.
He's an absolutely amazing professor who's super kind and caring. He was always extremely helpful during office hours and has a very fair grading scheme, with almost 70% of your grade consisting of homework and the rest consisting of two exams and a writing assignment. The writing assignment was time consuming but simple, and he gave extra credit on it based on how well you scored. The two exams were 24 hours and almost the exact same as the homework. This class is basically a free A. Take Pang!
pang is a g. just be careful with your TA tho because my TA was SO NITPICKY - i had ruoxi and she took points off for the smallest things (literally word choice). i learnt a lot tho !!! the lab reports can get kinda long (especially because they're online) but its honestly pretty manageable if you plan ahead and its easy, just long (so split it over a few days so you don't get tired out).
overall just take pang hes a legend and is honestly so helpful and organised<3
I will be on the lookout to take another class with Dr. Pang at the first chance I see a class open. He is THE BEST. Always extremely clear and concise with his explanations and answers. His office hours are so useful and provides so many resources for extra practice. I loved this class so much despite not being able to have the in person experience to do the labs. If you see this class open TAKE IT!!!!
Workload is not that bad and very manageable to break up across the week. His exams are very reasonable, not always easy but if you studied a bit and paid attention to his examples, you should be able to get through the exams well. For lab reports and homework, don't guess on sig figs and details, if you have questions ASK!! (He will answer promptly, he always replied to mine within 30 mins-1 hr) Those can cost a lot of points that will add up. Your TA's will grade your homework and reports, so they will also help!
He even offers bonus points if you can do well on the writing assignment so that also helps boost your grade if needed.
And he doesn't lie about how long things will take (even exams and quizzes, even if you do have 24 hrs.) So take it seriously when he says that week's lab report will take some time!!!
Good luck and have fun, Dr. Pang is the GOAT
Professor Pang is a great lecturer and the assignments and lab reports are very straightforward. Discussion sections were relatively short during the virtual setting which was very nice; most sections consisted of doing practice problem sets in concordance with the homwork and vlr's. Assignments and lab reports are due a week later but I would recommend starting as soon as possible and staying on track just to solidify your understanding of concepts and you will be fine.
