Dr. Pang is as great as everyone says he is. He is is an excellent lecturer, is extremely organized, and sets clear expectations for the class. However, don't equate that with an easy A. This class is graded on a strict points system, so you can only miss about 46 points total (out of 465) to get an A. Lab materials are graded strictly, so you need to make sure that you completed everything nearly perfectly.
Some tips for success:
-Form a group chat and check all of your lab report answers. Try not to miss easy points because you want a solid 20-30 point buffer going into the final.
-Don't procrastinate. You'll make more mistakes doing your labs late at night.
-Do the practice study guides.
Overall, getting an A in this class is very achievable. Just go to lecture, don't lose too many points, and don't underestimate the midterm and final.
The professor, hands down, is an awesome professor. His lectures are clear and engaging, and his office hours are very helpful.
The labs themselves are not to difficult; pay attention to sig figs and the directions and you should get a good grade for them. The midterm and final are trippy, however. They focus on the conceptual stuff. Fortunately, the writing assignment is very easy, and gives a lot of extra credit.
The workload was significant, however.
Super easy and fun class, overall. Some of the labs weren't super engaging, but Dr. Pang made the class as painless as it could be. Dr. Pang is a wonderful, approachable lecturer, and I would highly recommend taking 20L with him.
Professor Pang is a godsend. Really good, clear, and concise lectures -- and he prints out note packets for each for you to fill in key points. He's also really accommodating and clearly cares about his students. 11/10.
This class is definitely one of the best classes I've had here. Professor Pang makes everything clear in his lecture and is often funny. He is also generous in giving extra credit which compensates for the performance in the midterm. I would say this class is perfect if not for the lab session. You need to work triple hard to save your grade from a picky TA and lab partners who deduct your points by constantly forgetting to bring collaborative reports to the session.
Chem 20L is an easy class. Professor Pang was a nice professor and it seemed like he cared a lot about the class. The lecture gives you an introduction into what you're doing in lab that week and he prints out slides for the whole class to pick up. In the lab manual you'll read what to do beforehand and then go into lab and have no clue what to do but you'll figure it out with your partner. The midterm was really easy and I think the average was around 88%. The final was a lot harder but doing well on the labs should create a cushion. There isn't any curve in the class so how well you do on the tests and lab directly correlates to your grade.
Overall, Dr. Pang was an effective professor; he gave clear lectures and printed out the slides for us so we could study them for exams. He provided study guides for both the midterm and the final, which I highly recommend doing before the exams. Lab reports were pretty straightforward, and if you needed help, the TAs and Dr. Pang host many office hours throughout the week. I would definitely recommend Pang for chem 20L or any other chemistry lab class!
20L is a very basic chem lab. Nothing in it is particularly hard, and the directions are extremely direct. Peng is a great guy; he's entertaining and sometimes funny, and he genuinely cares about his students.
Dr. Pang is the best! He makes it very clear on how you have to succeed and he's extremely approachable if you have any questions on your lab reports. He's also super nice and friendly. You do have to complete a pre-lab and a post-lab for every lab section and that's kind of obnoxious, but they're not the worst. You kind of adjust to them after a little while. I'd say each one takes about 1-2 hours on average although there are a couple that take a lot longer and a few that are shorter. Overall though, the class has a very clear set up and it's pretty easy to succeed. For my quarter, about 52% of the class received A's so I really recommend you take it from Dr. Pang!!

For the exams be sure to do the study guide beforehand--it helps. Office hours are helpful for labs too. He is very nice.
