This is an amazing chance to learn about a single novel from someone who truly, wholeheartedly and earnestly loves every aspect of it. Grossman comes across at times like an obsessive crazy person but I think it (for the most part) improves his teaching. You've got a great opportunity to learn about the context but also in a way that allows for plenty of class discussion and engagement: this is one of the few classes I've ever taken that led to a genuine interest in other people's final essays and term papers. The one thing I would say is that Grossman is occasionally overly interested in his own pedagogy and spends a laborious amount of time speaking about why he is choosing to do what he does.
