Just saw that Jose is teaching 32A again so I'm leaving this review. While it has been a year since I took this class, I can still say that he is the best math professor I've ever had. Take his class if you can.
Yanez is one of the best professors I've ever had. He's clear, posts the notes online, and is always willing to give a helping hand. He's even willing to help and support people, not just in his lecture, which just speaks to his overall generosity and love for the subject. This was my first math class at UCLA, and I couldn't be more grateful for this fantastic professor.
absolutely loved this class, yanez is so friendly, helpful, and such a clear lecturer. tests were fair, work is manageable. i recommend doing all the practice problems he assigns as they really helped me ground the material and develop a better understanding of what we were doing, especially if you're in a math or math related major/ if you're taking 32b. there are a lot of resources, as the textbook is great imo. 32a is generally not a course you can cruise through and you definitely need to put in the work due to the course content, but yanez makes it fair and as easy as possible given what you need to learn. made me remember why i love math.
Loved this class and professor. Was scared to take multivariable but Yanez made it manageable, and would remind us to breathe before tests. He clearly cared, and I felt the midterms and final were fair. Highly recommend.
Yanez is the goat. Absolutely loved him as my first math teacher at UCLA. His class is manageable, the tests are tough, but fair. The homework is helpful and he is easy to understand. If you are struggling, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS.
Yanez was a very good professor and did a good job of teaching the content. The class was challenging, but the difficulty was expected. If you pay attention, learn the content, and do the homework, an A is achievable.
Professor Yanez is amazing, if you ever see him available for this class TAKE IT (even if it's a morning class and I despise those :P). His lectures are derivative of the textbook yet super engaging. He also has guided notes that he gives to his students to follow, which was tremendously helpful, letting me spend less time taking notes and more time being engaged in the lecture. Homework is very light, but his suggested problems are highly recommended if you are looking for more practice on hammering in concepts. Though he doesn't give practice midterms, there are plenty of other ways of studying and the midterms aren't hard imo. If you're struggling with problems, Prof. Yanez will be more than happy to go over them in OH. Overall, he's charming, engaging, funny, and dare I say a lil cute :).
