Super informative and easy fiat lux! We only met 3 times (Weeks 1, 3, and 5) throughout the quarter, hence, each class lasted around 2 hours. The first class just consisted of him introducing the concept of racial stratification to us. The assigned reading was The Color of Law book, which was an amazing read and you can find the PDF for free online. For the last two classes, you could sign yourself up to either present the assigned chapters of that week or form 10-15 discussion questions and lead a discussion segment alongside other classmates. I will note that if you do decide to present, you will also be participating in the discussion section. Lastly, there was one super simple 2-page essay that you wrote in response to one of the reflection questions that the Professor gave (it took me less than an hour to complete). Dr. Loya was a great professor and had very engaging lectures at the beginning of each class. At times, he was quite unclear on deadlines and instructions. He also responds via email and not BruinLearn. Despite this, he was very understanding, approachable, and overall a great Professor. He even brought us so much food in our last class. Would 100% recommend this Fiat Lux!

I took the Fiat Lux on Racial Discrimination in Housing. The class only met three times and revolved around a single book, "The Color of Law." The professor is super knowledgeable, approachable, and very funny, so the class is entertaining. For grading, I submitted a one-page reflection and presented a short slideshow about the book; the grading was based on completion (it's also mandatory pass/fail). Like most Fiat Lux classes, if you're interested in the topic, the seminar will be amazing.
