DO NOT TAKE OSTROY! Professor Ostroy is by far the worst Econ professor I've ever had. His lectures are completely worthless. I wish I were an English major so I could find the perfect combination of words to describe how bad this professor is. He absolutely cannot explain ANYTHING in his class. He fumbles over every other word and makes less sense than professors whose native language is not English.

He gives homework problems and practice midterms that have little to do with the actual tests. Students walk in to the midterm feeling confident in their abilities and walk out either enraged, depressed, or crying. (no joke, people were crying.)

If you have a choice of taking Ostroy or another professor for Econ 101, take the other professor. There is no point in subjecting yourself to the torture that is his lectures, or the pain that is his tests.

One positive point...the final wasn't nearly as bad as his midterms. I did walk away from the course with a better understanding of Economics...but not because of Professor Ostroy. I learned on my own or from TAs...which you could do with any professor. Why not try and get a professor that could help you learn instead of hinder or do nothing at all.

Don't take Ostroy for 101, you'll ruin your chances of getting into your major.. i've never walked out of a midterm so aggravated, not because it was necessarily hard, but because it was relatively easy, yet i couldn't finish because of the sheer lack of time... For the second midterm, i made sure to pace myself yet sTiLL couldn't finish it. honestly, i think i'd rather wait for another prof to teach it than to take it with Ostroy
