I enjoyed Professor Han’s class. The breakdown of the class is pretty much what another recent review described. The class is quite structured so I didn’t ever feel lost. They’re firm but a very reasonable and kind person. They might give off the vibe of a strict person at first but they're actually really sweet. You can tell she’s a really smart and profound person and takes the time to give solid feedback to her students and I feel she really cares. You will actually learn something in this class, because they make sure to get us thinking deeply about things rather than just scratching the surface level stuff. I won’t deny that grading can be subjective to some extent, but I think as long as you make sure to really follow instructions, you will be on the right path. If she sees that you are trying, she will appreciate it. Some of the ratings here said she was condescending, I personally don't think it happens often or anything, and I don’t think she purposely means to look down on students at all. but I can see that maybe it comes from misunderstandings rather than her actually talking down to you. She might be perceived as strict by some but I think it’s just that she’s probably tired of low effort students who take her class simply because they think the gender studies classes are easy As (and she can see through your BS so don’t try that). I recommend you go talk to her in office hours, she’s quite a cool professor and really funny too. I can’t guarantee you’ll like this class because everyone has different tastes, but I personally think it’s worth it. She’s not out to get you or anything or give you a bad grade, and there’s a lot of opportunities to get a good grade.

I took Power with Professor Han before and also left a review on that. I really enjoyed this class and Professor Han is so cool and funny. It’s less structured than Power, so you have more freedom. however I know some people struggle with this too because then it might be harder to feel motivated, but I personally liked the structure of the class. We watched a lot of documentaries in this class that made us really emotional and cry. Professor Han is a really understanding and kind professor. Sometimes she may change the syllabus up but it’s often for the better in my opinion. I really feel that she cares about our learning and she doesn’t want us to be too stressed. Overall it was really fun and meaningful. it honestly had a pretty profound impact on me that i cant quite articulate and i think this class changed my brain chemistry. I wish I could take more classes with her but I’m graduating.

This professor is very condescending if you've interacted with her. She would listen to you at office hours but gives you the feeling that she's constantly judging you in her head, making me feel uncomfortable to attend office hours. The most stupid thing about this class is a syllabus quiz worth 5% of your grade due at the end of week 1, with a bunch of obscure questions and multiple-choice questions that have so much leeway for interpretation. Also, one time she literally kicked a poor student out because poor dude was just sitting there for an extra 5 minutes because his previous lecture was in the same room. And she straight up was like "who are you? This is not your class, so get out." WTF????? The class cohort which took the course with me was also full of suck ups and teacher's pets who would be so eager in expressing their crazy devotion for this class and the professor during lectures and sections, which was ridiculous to see given how my experience with her and just her as a professor is weird. Everything that happens in relation to this class could be described as modern art, which is perplexing to the normal eye.

Definitely what I expected from a UCLA gender course (in a good way). Professor Han has a background in Geography and was able to include that into the themes of power quite well. I got to learn and unlearn many things about power and quite enjoyed the class.
The classes is graded as follows:
Self-introduction (100 words) = 5 points
Syllabus Quiz = 5 points
Attendance and Participation = 20 points
Online Quiz (20 questions x 3) = 30 points
Discussion Post (500-750 words x 3) = 30 points
Self-assessment (1000 words) = 10 points
The quizzes were fairly easy as long as you paid attention in lecture (there was also a group notes doc you could look at to help), with only one or two questions being curveballs. The discussion posts asked you to respond to a reading or topic by raising your own questions and doing a small amount of research. The TA's graded quite hard but that is mainly because they expected high level work. The self-assessment was a quick final "quiz" (unlimited time just in quiz format) about how you think you did in the class and what you got out of it.
Overall I would take a class with Professor Han again since it challenged me and opened my eyes to many new topics.
