Really great professor. I often watched the recordings on 2x speed instead of staying caught up with lectures but I think Jukka was really funny and helpful. Tests were similar to what was done in class, but the lab sections were a bit difficult and graded pretty harshly (you have to do coding). "In the dark of the night, if you find yourself forgetting what the point of all of this is, please remember our discussion of linear algebra again with the black bears."-jukka, 2022.

Jukka had raving reviews so I had really high expectations going into the class but was kinda disappointed. He's a cool dude, very eccentric and definitely cares a lot about his students but I never learned a single thing in lecture. We always spent like the first half reviewing last lecture's content and then the second half he just answered pointless questions. He didn't really explain any topic well and the textbook didn't explain that well either so I was lost a lot. Managed to get an A by talking to other kids who took the class and was also blessed with online midterm and final. The coding labs were manageable IMO, def harder than LS30A but not impossible. There is a final capstone project at the end where you have to put together a sort of research paper with your group but the grading is super lenient. Overall, Jukka's a fun prof but didn't really learn much from his teaching style

I'm not very religious, but I do wholeheartedly believe this man is an angel descended from the heavens. Jukka is the best professor I've had at UCLA so far, and I 100% recommend taking him if you need LS 30A/B. He is super understanding, accommodating, clear, and just an all-around nice person. Sometimes in the middle of lecture he'll just randomly say how much he loves us and it makes me want to cry he is so sweet. His slides are really easy to understand - he does a great job of turning pretty complicated topics into very organized presentations. He does give a lot of small assignments throughout the week (like pre-class/post-class work) that can be difficult to keep track of in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it it's not bad at all. His exams were very fair and he did an amazing job preparing us for it. In his review sessions, he'll literally go over problems of the exact same format before the midterm & final. He also provides practice exams and a whole slideshow of practice exam problems so you'll be set. Near the end, he gave more extra credit because it seemed like he just wanted everyone to get an A and not be stressed. The coding in 30B was harder than 30A, but I just got a lot of help from my TA and LA and I was fine. And it's not bad considering there wasn't any coding on our midterm or final. Overall, Jukka is your best friend so take 30B with him if you can!!!

jukka is the best teacher for this class. he is clear, helpful, and very approachable. he uses two beanie babies in class that you ask questions to (flippy and puffers). he is also very funny during class and makes the lessons fun and entertaining as well as easy to understand. i would love every class at UCLA and pass every one if ey were all taught by the penguin god himself, jukka

Firstly Jukka (yes we call him by his first name) is an incredibly enthusiastic professor that is eager to help his students excel. His explanations are very thorough and he truly has a grip on what parts of the course material are difficult and spends extra time on them. However, the course material is not interesting by any means, but if you can make yourself focus it becomes relatively easy to understand. The concepts are a bit abstract, but Jukka typically phrases it in a way that makes sense. I recommend reading the textbook as you complete your homework because the textbook is helpful and actually rather readable for a book about math. Overall, Jukka is a great professor who makes the LS30 series slightly more enjoyable than it otherwise would be.

I am not a math person. I did good anyways, and would have done better if I hadn't just stopped paying attention after the midterm. That was entirely a me problem. Jukka is a god among professors and has an amazing grading scheme and also I would trust him with my life. Definitely do the homework and the practice exam questions and make sure you actually understand them and double check your work. You should be okay,

This is a great class with an amazing professor. I can't recommend Jukka enough. He is very kind, interesting, smart, and warm. He makes the class so good. In order to do well in this class, just do all the assignments on time, go to all the office hours (it's best to do weekly quizzes after office hours to make sure you understand the questions and answers), and study a lot. It's a substantial amount of work, but this is a fascinating class with one of the best professors ever.

You've probably already heard many great things about Jukka. But my favorite thing about this class is his suggestion box on CCLE. You will probably never find another professor who cares as deeply about their students' feedback as Jukka does. He is a legend. Periodt.

I felt that this may have been some of the most meaningful math I had ever learned. On top of that, Jukka is one of the best professors on campus, and he genuinely cares about how his students do. You have to work hard in this class, but he is quite understanding of different situations. He is also quite funny! If you are going to take LS30B, make sure to take it with Jukka.

Keranen is the best! He truly cares a lot about his students and gives out study guides before the midterm and final, which help a lot in knowing what kind of problems or concepts will be predominant on them. The grade distribution is: 5% Clicker, 13% Homework, 12% Labs, either 25% Midterm and 45% Final or 15% Midterm and 55% Final (whichever is more advantageous towards you). Even though the content may not seem easy, Keranen makes it easier to understand even the most abstract of concepts. Not to mention, he always says funny little things during lecture, which make it fun to go to, and helps make lectures seem to go faster. I would love to take this class again and I hope you all get the chance to take this wonderful class with JUKKA!
