The material was hard for me to wrap my mind around at first because I had no history of accounting, but Gardner is super engaging and has a way of teaching that made you understand the material without having to do too much on your own. Once you get through a week or two, things start to click. She gives several projects which are time consuming and seem terrible in the moment, but it's really nice because most other professors only have grades made up of midterms. Also, if you have a friend in the class you can check your work on the projects. I would recommend doing the homework problems to practice the material! This is not an easy class, but it was definitely interesting!
I am a junior right now and this teacher is by far the WORST teacher I have ever met at UCLA . NEVER TAKE HER CLASS if you do not want to ruin your GPA, your happiness, and you life. She is the worst person I have met since my childhood. I feel shamed to have such a person living and working in the same neighborhood with me.
She is a good lecturer but not a good professor. Her lectures are engaging and clear. However, she comes late to class every lecture, and she doesn’t pay much attention to her students. The materials are hard and you need to put enough effort into the class to get an A’s. I’d recommend this professor if mgmt 1A is your major requirement, because you can learn a lot from her lectures, despite her “lack of professionalism.”
If you have no accounting background prior to this class, you will somewhat suffer. You definitely have to put the work in to get the best grade possible. Something to be aware of is her grading scheme. Only the top 20% of the class get an A, the next 40% get a B, and the next 40% get a C or lower. That being said, at least 20% will not pass the class.
She uses a course reader that is vital to the class because you do everything with it. It is helpful during class however I found it a bit confusing to study on my own because you do everything in class. So to study, I did the homework problems she assigns, which by the way she does not collect homework. She simply collects assignments.
She is the most straightforward, funny, and fair management teacher. so if you can, take her! The other teachers I have heard are not good or have a ridiculous grading scheme.
One more thing, her tests are extremely time sensitive and if you don't know how to do something, move ON! and do something you do know how to do.
Best professor I have ever had at UCLA. Gardner is not afraid to repeat again and again what you need to know, which I like a lot because usually professors expect students to remember material after it has only been said once. Her class is very organized and you do lots of examples with her during class. Her tests are very challenging and require you to work through problems really fast.
This class was pretty much the hardest one I've taken in college. The workload isn't super heavy unless it's around projects, then it can get to be a lot. You're going to have to work hard for a good grade but it can be done.
