Quarter: Fall 2016
Grade: A-
Feb. 21, 2017

Williams is a sweet woman that is very passionate and knowledgeable n the subject. Highly recommend this as a GE. No midterm of final, just three short essays. Lecture was usually hit or miss for me, with some being very engaging and others seeming to be pointless or repetitive. Lecture is not all that important in this class, but discussion is definitely worth it because this is where you discuss the main ideas of the readings which you can then use to write about. There was a good amount of reading but it was almost always very interesting to read about and can change your perspective on things. That being said, don't take this class if you're not willing to be open-minded.

This class was phenomenal. Professor Williams was engaging, confident, eloquent, and clearly an expert in her field. Her lectures were clear and insightful, and challenged the way I think about the world. The weekly readings were sometimes dense but very rewarding, and the ta's were dedicated, helpful, and very knowledgeable. There were 3 essays and no tests (only weekly reading responses in section), and overall the material was both eye-opening and relevant. No textbook was required, just articles posted on the class website. Take this class! I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a great GE!

This was a great class to take, Williams is strict on participation but you get extra credit for it by using a poll system. She also gives extra credit if you do "reading logs" - summaries of the weekly readings.
I would recumbent this class, I'm not at all knowledgeable in gender studies, the content is easy/medium
There are two exams and weekly quizzes in section which are not difficult
You will need a course reader in order to do all the readings because they aren't all online.. I bought mine for $80 and am selling it for $50 if anyone is interested! **********!!

Williams is very passive aggressive. The Ta makes the grade and showing up to lecture is not worth it. She takes attendance on poll everywhere and you can easily take attendance from your dorm with the app. The book is mostly online and it is far too overpriced. Class is not hard to do well just do the extra credit and do the readings. The class had one midterm and a final no essays. Easy Class

Professor Williams was a great teacher and this is the perfect class if it's your first quarter at UCLA. This class is a great transition to college. The only assignments are a paper for the midterm and another for the final which are pretty short and you are basically taught how to write them during discussion. I had Sa as my TA and she was amazing. This class is super interesting and definitely doable. I ended up writing my final paper the day it was due, ended up getting a B on the paper, but still got an A- in the class. Williams does not like electronics, especially cell phones and WILL call you out in class about it.

This is a great class to take if you're interested in gender in society. It can get a bit boring and repetitive if you're less interested in the subject.

Professor Williams has a cute, bubbly personality in class. However, her lectures can sometimes be disorganized. You could get the same main points by reading/skimming the course reader, which she sells for about $85. She updates it every quarter, but few articles are added/removed.

I'm selling my fall 2015 course reading. About half the articles contain some highlighting, but the pages and cover are in good condition.

The class was really enjoyable and challenged how I saw the world. Professor Williams is very insightful and engaging. I enjoyed her lectures greatly. It's not an easy class, but I feel like the hardwork I put into this class paid off in the knowledge I gained from it. I'd suggest this class to everyone because I feel that it covers really important aspects of life.

Workload: There's no midterm or final, just two 1000 word essays due on Turnitin at 3 pm on the due dates. For the first 5-10 minutes of each section meeting, you will be asked to respond to a question related to prior class readings and lectures. Reading is needed in this class, but I thought the reading selections were interesting once I was able to see the main idea.

25% Critical Analysis Paper II
