Dr. Forlano is very clear and helpful. His tests are very direct if you do all his homework (he gives hints for tough questions as well!). I think the homework is lengthy, but given they account for 30% of the grade I think it is okay (there are 8-12 questions per homework, so it can take very long). He is very kind and responsive to questions and emails. More so, if you find any mistakes/concerns for your scores, he is very understanding and thoughtful during office hours. Overall, I think if you are willing to take your time for the homework, I definitely recommend Dr. Forlano!
A lot of us were complaining about Prof. Forlano early in the quarter because his midterms were much harder than the other Math 32B section's take home midterms with Prof. Gleizer. However, after finding out how Gleizer's class got screwed over by his hard final that was not curved, I think I can pretty confidently say that Forlano was the better instructor. I feel like I actually learned a lot about calculus and came out pretty confident with multivariable integration. His exams were hard, but they were related to the lectures, and there were a lot of practice problems. He was pretty helpful during office hours, and he was accommodating when I fell sick during an exam week. In short, he's actually a really good teacher (really don't take this for granted), so I would recommend him, but his exams are hard, and I have heard that there are easier Math 32B professors out there if that's what you're looking for.
I took MATH 32A with Forlano but there isn't a page for that class so I thought I would add my review here.
Overall, I think his class is pretty good. MATH 32A is definitely hard but he tries his best to ensure that students understand the content. There is no forced curve which means that if you get 90%+ you'll get an A- or higher, but the specific boundaries for an A is dependent on overall class performance. I took the class when the math department was online for the winter quarter so all my exams were online. I thought they were all quite straightforward, albeit long and if I had to do a test of the same length in person, I definitely would not have finished. The homeworks start off simple but they progressively get harder. Towards the end, a lot of the questions showing up I did not know how to solve based off of what we were taught in class. Luckily, he lets you drop two homework scores so that was good. Overall, a pretty decent professor.
