I loved this class! I would highly recommend for anyone who loves discussions about consciousness, philosophy, psychology, or anthropology. The class wasn't like anything else I had ever taken before. Dr. Mazey was incredibly accommodating and helpful. He gives extensions if you deserve them (put in effort in class discussions and work quality) and consults with you on your midterm and final papers as many times as you would like (which you should definitely take advantage of)! He even met with me for an hour on the weekend which was incredible. He also hosted the class over for dinner and we had the amazing opportunity to chat with his wife as well. The 3 hour seminar format did make it feel like classes were super long (especially since Dr. Mazey talks for the majority of the time) but we always took a 10 minute break half way through. He brought in guest speakers, some of whom were fascinating. This class completely changed how I think.

A lot of students complained about the workload, but to be honest, compared to any of my other pre-med prep classes the workload was extremely manageable. There were two reading summaries due each week (one for each reading, one page each) that were mainly for completion but Dr. Mazey does read through them and references them in class! They were helpful for discussion prep. Readings were interesting and mandatory, but not too difficult to get through. If you don't understand them, it's okay because we discussed them in class. There was a midterm paper and a final paper. I honestly learned so much from the process and it helped solidify that I wanted to change my major to psychobio. TAKE THIS CLASS I don't know why the reviews are so low.

Class was fantastic. I am selling the reader cheaper than the price listed in the UCLA store. Email me if interested. *************

Class was interesting, to say the least. Class consisted of 2 page reports of the readings (1.5 spaced) every week, presentations of the readings, 5 page midterm (1.5 spaced), and an 8 page final (1.5 spaced). Selling the course reader for a good price! Let me know *************

This class is on a really interesting topic - the anxiety of fear. Professor Mazey is a really great professor who is a retired clinician. He is very knowledgeable on the topic.

Overall, this class was enjoyable. The workload was incredibly manageable with only 2 papers and a couple weekly reading assignments.

My complaints about this class are that there was very little discussion. Also, Prof. Mazey is very specific about the style of writing he likes and if you don't write it exactly how he wants it he will grade you down.

He is very approachable and will go over your papers with you before the due date. I highly recommend doing that because he does sometimes grade somewhat harshly, especially on the midterm.

This class would be pretty easy to get a B but does require quite a bit of effort to get an A.
