I agree with the person below me... Her course was generally unorganized and without structure. I hate presentations and making me do two for one class is just annoying. So, if you don't mind talking in class this might be for you. But for someone like me, it was just too bothersome. She gives food out during class since it's a 3 hour seminar during noon and all but I just wouldn't bother with this class again mainly because I'm taking 3 other classes that are just killing me. If you like presentations, go for it. The 15 page creative project shouldn't be a so hard since it's basically writing poems or whatever unless you do the optional 15 critical paper... Good luck. However, I did take her for M107A - American Women Writers and that class was easy peasy. Her notes on the board might be scattering but she's good at lectures. Not so much on class discussions and seminars such as 180

Granted the subject of Women's Poetry is appealing, the course was burdensome and fustrating for me. For someone who centers the course more on student presentations, projects and input rather than explanatory analysis from her own knowledgable mind, I found the class to be an unorganized and annoying. The course consisted of required, scheudled presentations on an array of poets by each and every student. Furthermore, everyone is required to craft an extensive portfoilo of which is also required to be presented. And if that weren't enough, the choice of either a 15 page paper or some version of yet another 'come up with your own' creative project is a major segment of your grade. It's nice that she provides a good amount of leeway for assignments but its another to have all course work and the class revolve around a structureless course. And if you're one to feel overwhelemed when issued a constant series of handouts, then you'll despire this tree-killer.

I loved this seminar! (Ancestors womens voices) highly recommend. I enjoyed Karen as well as she gives great feedback, and a wonderful atmosphere in which to delve into something more personal. Balances well with my other classes. So happy I took this. Lots of room for the creative, so if you lean this way or are curious--please take this seminar.
