Selling all books for COMM 1 with Mack. Text ********** if interested.
Overall, it was a fun, easy class. Your grade consists of 5 assignments: Impromptu job pitch, ceremonial speech, informative speech, persuasive speech, and a paper analyzing the persuasive elements of a famous speech (Gettysburg, Churchill, etc...).
Plan ahead for the speeches, give them a few run-throughs, and you'll be fine. Mack is very approachable and easy to talk to, so definitely take advantage of that if you have any questions. Good class if you want to improve or refine your public speaking skills.
This class was easy and fun (even if you don't like public speaking). Professor Mack is a forgiving grader and since the class size is small, our class got really close.
Selling Essential Guide to Rhetoric for $7. Text me if interested at ********** .
Easy class, interesting and learned to speak more confidently in front of people. I also became really close with my class because the class sizes are so small which was nice.

Professor Mack is such a sweetheart. She's a really nice lady and has a sense of humor here and there, but it's not annoyingly in your face. The majority of the class is spent listening and giving lectures. You give 3 speeches and they increase in length and complexity. The class is really doable, all you have to do is show up to class and listen to lectures for participation. She explains everything well and shows videos to help make it clear what a good example is of a good speech. There is a final, but all you have to do is listen to and read at least some of the lectures she posts. Workload is pretty light, doable class, great professor.
This is a pretty easy class. It just takes some time. You have to do 4 speeches and 1 analytical paper on an essay. They're pretty simple. She grades easily. She's really nice. If you take notes on her lectures, you don't really need to read any of her books. There was a final that consisted of writing and analyzing speeches. It was alright as long as you paid some attention to her boring lectures. I liked the videos and Ted Talks she shows in class though. The speeches aren't bad. They're pretty entertaining the things people talk about. I went to class everyday. She makes you write some feedback on the speeches and turn it in, but I feel like she doesn't really look a them.
Great teacher. I really feel like everyone in this class really progressed in public speaking as the class went on. Speeches aren't very hard, and they are actually interesting to listen to. The final isnt too bad either, I feel like almost everyone got an A or -A.
REALLY EASY GE!!
Prof Mack is so sweet and friendly--her Comm 1 class was really easy and fun at the same time. You write and present 4 speeches and they get progressively longer (the last one is 5-7 minutes). An elevator pitch, a ceremonial speech, an informative speech, and a persuasive speech. They are all easy to do well on as long as you put the effort in and are engaging when you present them to the class. She allows you to talk from a script—you don't have to memorize.
This class has a really light workload; the most you do outside of class is write your speeches and write a paper on a ~30 minute speech. The final was short answer questions that weren't difficult to answer.
I never used the books required for this class; you can definitely get by without buying them.
She is a really great professor even though lectures can be extremely boring. You can easily just be on your laptop the whole class. The speeches are pretty easy to make and she grades them very easily. I would recommend taking this class with her.
I loved Prof Mack and this class! If public speaking is not for you, I do not recommend taking comm 1. It's basically a speech class where you do around 5 speeches in the whole quarter. Although it is a speech, you do not have to memorize it! She allows everyone to bring up an outline or a fully written speech when you present, so you can basically read off your essay but try to do as much eye contact as possible. For the final, it is a hand written test and a study guide is provided for you. Although speaking in public can sometimes be dreadful, it is a small class so it's not a lot of people and you can really get to know your classmates. I would 100% retake this class!!!
Awesome class, super easy, I took it for fun. Not great if you're really looking for skills in public speaking, but it was fun to take. I wouldn't buy the textbooks again, I dont think I use them at all.
