Very engaging lectures and the work environment is super collaborative. The class is not a "lecture" as it only occupies about 20-30 students. The workload is very manageable while being super engaging. It is also a more practical class that teaches real-world skills that are important to succeed as current and future professionals.
DO NOT CHOOSE KARYL as your Public Speaking professor. She has a midterm that is heavily weighed but does not prep you enough for it, and it is pointless to public speaking. Her group assignment makes you share a grade, so if the other person sucked, it too is your fault. She gives you a final grade she feels you deserve not one you earned. I am an excellent public speaker my speeches wow'ed the crowd every time. I wasn't the only one who was pretty good at public speaking, but still I left Comm 1 with a freaking B.
Bridgewater is your guy!!
I actually took 110 - but this wasn't an option on the drop down.
Professor Kicenski is a great teacher. She is so available to her students and very concerned about them as both a professor and a mentor. Her class is interesting and thought provoking, covering a ton of different gender issues. She is an excellent teacher using interesting examples to illustrate her points. She facilitates discussion well which is often hard in such a large class and her lectures are clear and organized. The grading is a little harder than expected and the midterm was trickier than I expected. Overall though I absolutely loved this class and would definitely take another one of her classes
She teaches 110 but it wasn't available in the drop down. (Gender & Communication)
The class is interesting as is the reading. Her powerpoint are clear and she will give out a comprehensive study guide. The tests are surprisingly difficult... Many scored lower on the midterm than they expected. Digging deeper into the concepts and definitions is necessary to get an A. Also knowing application of what is taught, is required on the exams.
Nice teacher.
I'm not sure what the previous ratings are from, but her speech class is AWESOME. I was originally enrolled in Comm 1 with Miller because of the reviews, but I switched after realizing there was no way I could sit through 2 hours of nonsense. (Miller is really sweet, but when you go around a class of 50+ and ask each person their opinion on the same subject, everyone repeats each other and it is just terrible.)
Professor K has made speech relatively painless and actually pretty fun and interesting. She is a sweet woman with a kind, warm demeanor and voice.
Plus, her assignments are VERY reasonable and relevant and she doesn't try to cram a bunch of nonsense into the quarter.
