Prof Morgan is a great lecturer. She is very enthusiastic about Greek Mythology. She knows her stuff; she is very concerned about her students. I was never bored in that class... it is definitely beneficial to attend her lectures... but if you don't, that's okay too. The material comes straight from the book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I dont understand why people are saying lectures are boring/pointless. first of all, you get to listen to a british accent talking about massive erections in ancient art. it's hilarious, not boring. and beside that, the lectures are very interesting if you're at all interested in greek mythology, and professor morgan is great. great! so dont be lame and complain, it's an easy class, the reading goes quickly.
professor morgan is a pretty good professor...but the class itself wasnt as easy of a GE as i had expected. i took the class because i enjoyed mythology, but i didnt know there was gonna be so much reading! there was A LOT. but since i enjoyed the subject matter, it wasnt so bad. the exams were pretty fair, but make sure to study for them. they can be kind of nitpicky and detailed though...i thought i did decent in the class, but i ended up with a C+! gross. only take the class if you like reading mythology and youre ready to study. oh...and lecture is pretty much pointless. youll be fine if you do the readings and get the notes offline.
She's a good lecturer. Don't take this class unless you are willing to work hard for a good grade. The midterms, final, and paper go straight to your TA, so don't get a harsh one like I did. Not an easy GE, seriously. But take the class if you like mythology, because you learn a lot.
Lectures were pointless to go to, as all notes were posted online, along with the visuals. As long as you did the reading (including the notes online) and participated in discussion, you learned alot even without the early morning lectures.
HATED THIS CLASS!!! FINAL WAS SOOO HARD! U HAVE TO REMEMBER EVERYTHING FROM THE READINGS AND ITS AT 9 IN THE MORNING!!! NO MATTER HOW FUNNY OTHER PPL SAY SHE IS, I STILL SLEPT DURING CLASS CUZ IT WAS SOOOO BORING (THE SUBJECT AND THE TEACHER). I WAS STUCK WITH A BAD TA ALSO SO THAT WASNT GOOD. I MEAN HE WAS FAIR BUT I DIDNT REALLY LIKE HIM. DONT TKAE THIS CLASS IF U HATE HISTORY OR STUFF SIMILAR TO IT. DISREGARD WAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT THIS CLASS!!!
MY ADVISE TO U GUYS: DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Morgan's mythology class was very interesting and a perfect class for someone to take for a GE pass/no pass. The lectures were amazing and the readings were interesting. Unfortunately the graded material was difficult, and the TAs were very strict. The reading was intense but do-able. If you have time to spend and an interest in the subject I strongly recommend this prof.
morgan was a good lecturer. i had her at 9am and still stayed awake more than half of the time. the first midterm is cake, but after that, the second midterm, paper, and final were tough. it all depends on your TA, and how he/she grades. (on the whole, they are all pretty rigid). if you dont like keeping up with reading, then steer clear of this class.
one important fact_ everything in mythology has to do with sex, semen, the womb, fertility, and sex.
I thought this class was pretty hard, especially for a g.e. There was sooo much info to remember and the grading is hard. If you miss like 3, you get a grade lower and it's not like there are only a few questions on the midterms. However, she was a great teacher and I learned more in her class than any other because I not only learned about mythology (and like every single detail ahhh!!!!) but also how to analyze and draw connections better. Her lectures are very organized, she is humorous at times, easy to approach, and her English accent adds a little flair. If you're a math person like me, this might be pretty hard and time consuming when you have to read so much and remember all the weird names, characteristics, and relationships, but you will definately learn something valueable.
She is DEFINITELY one of the BEST professors I have had at UCLA and makes me want to switch to be a Classics major. Her lectures are vibrant and exciting and keeps you awake and interested in the material. Everyone should take Classics 30. She doesn't have to read from a paper and lectures with lots of emotion and feeling, so you really get a feel for all of the myths. I love this class!! GREAT PROF.!
