Robinson was a cool guy. I felt he did a good job of explaining how to find things in Stata. The final paper was annoying though moreso becasue of the analyses portion than stata. definitiely took time and hard to ask questions because so many people would ask. also hated my TA who was an unnecessarily tough grader.
selling Investigating the Social World SEVENTH EDITION. $20. found out it was same material just differnt pages.

I don't really know how to describe this class. Robinson is a cool guy but he wasn't helpful at all. So many people were confused about how to do this research paper with all the different requirements. He wasn't very clear about how to do certain things so I know lots of students (including me) had tons of questions. Caitlin Ahearn, however, was a great TA. I'd definitely say she was more helpful than him and she made it easy to understand exactly what steps we had to take to do the paper properly. I don't think I would've known what I needed to do without her.
SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
The Professor is a really nice guy, but he doesn't help the students. He cancelled the midterm, so now the final paper is worth almost all of our grade in the class. During the midterm, the Professor was out of town and cancelled class, but even worse for the final paper my TA was out of town. Everyone has about a million questions on this final research paper and there's only 1 TA, who's not even my TA, to answer questions. I spent 4 full days with zero distractions working on this paper and I'm still worried I may fail this class. I have gotten all A's in every Soc upper div I've taken and this is just a prep class. My final paper ended up being 19 pages of text and 29 total including all of the tables. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. This has been the worst class that I have taken at UCLA and has caused me so much anxiety and stress. I just hope I pass at this point so that I can continue with the Sociology major because if you don't pass this class, you can not declare the Soc major!
Sorry to say this, but this class sucks. I'm doing my final paper, and I just want to say "DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM".
Everything depends on your TA. I've never thought about F in my life, but I think I will get D/F for sure because I didn't actually learn something from the class.
Literally the worst class I have ever taken in my entire life.
I'm currently writing this before my final grade will be posted.
But he provides zero help and improper example materials for our final paper which is worth more than 70% of our grade.
I'll be honest, I haven't been to every single lecture, but you honestly don't really need to go. I highly recommend going to section, as your TA will be grading your paper and teach you what your paper should look like ( I had Caitlyn, bless her soul).
Start your assignments early as you will be needing last minute clarification.
I would never take this prof ever again.
It seems like he lacks knowledge of his own material.
I have to say that: it is a pretty easy class, the course work is very light (til the end), and if you're a great BS writer, you'll do fine.
This is the first (and probably last) time I will ever write a review on here. Tbh this class just pissed me off a lot.
SO LONG ROBINSON
This is probably the worst class that I have ever taken at UCLA solely because he was my professor. He provided no guidance on the ONE assignment that we had. To make matters even worse, that one assignment was a final paper worth 100% of the grade. I do not understand why he would teach a class like this. Writing a research paper with no previous experience and additionally no help from your professor is ridiculous. Avoid taking this class with him at all costs.
Soc 20 is a hard class to teach in general. He was good at explaining how to use the state software, but I believe he could have been a bit more clear about the grade criteria for the papers. Not an Easy A, but he was an okay professor. I would recommend him.
