Professor
Kent Vashaw
Most Helpful Review
Winter 2026 - I really struggled with this class. Vashaw isn’t a bad professor—in fact, students in previous years seemed to like him—but it felt like the course was made significantly harder. Compared to friends in other sections, our exams were much longer (around 10 questions versus their 4), often at the same level of difficulty and sometimes with multiple parts. The questions were very conceptual, which is fine in theory, but the time constraints made it difficult since many students ran out of time. I studied intensely—worked through the entire textbook, completed as many past midterms and finals as I could—and still found the exams challenging. I managed to pull through on the final, but the midterms were rough despite heavy preparation. Multivariable calculus itself isn’t inherently impossible—in fact, it can be really interesting when you see its applications—but the way the course was structured made it feel unnecessarily difficult. The disconnect between lecture material and exam expectations was frustrating, and by the end, I was just relieved to be done.
