Fall 2024 - I was waiting for this professor to be added to Bruinwalk so I could write a review. Took this class in Fall 2024 so it's not fresh in my mind, but the class was Sociology of the Arts and Creative Professions. I absolutely loved the topic and really liked the professor. Grade breakdown 70% attendance and participation points 10% midterm - multiple choice and one written question 20% final - multiple choice and one written question Participation included going to discussion section, attending "workshops" (in class sessions that prep you for tests) and doing the in class small writing assignments to check that you did the reading. Most classes (I don't remember if it was the beginning or towards the end of class) she would ask you to write a few sentences about the reading. She had different questions, but mostly it just asked what was the main idea of the reading. Towards the end of the quarter, I think she allowed us to use our notes as it was stressing out a lot of people. I thought this was a fairly straight forward class, but a lot of other people stressed out about the in class small writing assignments. This was her first quarter teaching at UCLA and on a quarter system and so she was open to feedback and changed things as she went. We were definitely kind of the guinea pig class, and she was very kind and open to change. The topic itself was so fun and I think most people agreed with that. She was able to cover core sociology concepts very well by using the class material as examples and it made it a lot easier to understand. The exams weren't easy A's, you definitely had to study, but if you did you could get a good grade. Overall, I would recommend this professor. She is very sweet and I have kept in touch with her and she will be writing me a letter of recommendation for grad school. She is always willing to talk to students in office hours, and if you enjoy sociology, definitely go talk with her. She's very approachable and loves to chat.
