I guess Jansma doesn't teach many French 1 classes, because I also had a TA instead! I loved him, though. His name is Ambroise Aubrun. We had a lot of fun in class because he makes sure you learn, but doesn't take the material too seriously to laugh about it. Definitely get to know the people in your class and try to practice conversation, it will make a huge difference in the end! Though a fairly easy class overall if you are decent at languages.

I took 3 years of french in high school, but I had a terrible teacher. So, I came into this class with a basic knowledge of French, without which I would have had a very hard time in this class. Jansma is a very nice woman. She makes a great effort to get to know everyone and involve everyone in discussions. But she is a little disorganized and she moves a little fast for the people who have never taken french before. Her class is a fun and easy A for the people who have previous knowledge of french. She is very lax about turning homework in on time. Overall, I would recommend her.

I guess I must be some kind of anomaly, because I took French 1 this quarter and had Jansma herself...and she taught the entire class except for a couple days when she was sick. And well, she's basically like every foreign language teacher I've ever had...into the subject to the point of seeming slightly crazed. It was amusing though...I can't say the class didn't keep me entertained. I think I learned a decent amount. She did have a bad habit, though, of randomly throwing in things we hadn't been taught, which made me more clueless than I already was. But whatever...I enjoyed her class, and I guess I should consider myself lucky that I was taught by the person who wrote the book

Prof. Jansma was a really amazing instructor! She was extremely energetic, very engaging, approachable, she knew her stuff, and made the class really fun. Always, began class with a "Allo classe. Ca va?" Excellent prof. I would definitely recommend Jansma. Class structure is very organized and easy to follow. Her linguistics background and her degree in teaching French as a second language make of Jasma a truly capable instructor. For introductory French courses, this is the instructor to have.
