It is easy to tell that Dr. Simpson loves what he does. He does, however, seem pretty absent minded and goes off on tangents. He doesn't seem that approachable, but he's a good teacher. Don't get too worried about not understanding a lot of stuff he teaches- he really is only concerned that you know the gritty details on his slides such as diseases, scientists, etc. He won't ask you to design an experiment on an exam- this is what Dr. Johnson does.

Professor Simpson is a nice person but a so-so instructor, which is what really matters. The material really is not that bad, it's just difficult to organize it in your head because his slides are not very organized at all. He is very passionate about the subject which is nice, except for it makes him go really in depth about some topics, he goes off on tangents and goes on and on about stuff that is not on the slides and you don't know whether you're going to need to know that stuff or not...it would be really nice if he'd tell you. But other than that his tests are not that bad. It's not all just memorization but for the most part it is. I really can't complain about his tests, it wasn't too hard. Except for one question that the TA said almost every person got wrong because it wasn't a good question. But overall, his test wasn't too bad and as long as you can organize the material well in your head you should be fine.

Maybe he read these reviews. But his tests were NOT entirely memorization. It is ridiculous. All the TAs said the same exact thing, but I guess in 2010 he decided to change it up. He has a lot of material to "memorize." Lots of names of people, places, methods, locations origin etc. But NONE of those ended up being on the test. It was 80% conceptual. However for Johnson, it was plain and simple. She said there will be no memorization and all concept which was exactly what the exam was. However Simpson's test was very misinformed. And the grading scale on the right is all funky. It was not that generous. Simpson is interested but he wonders off into his own world. Avoid the class. There is a reason why this class always has room to register.
