Ok a couple thoughts that may be controversial:

Primarily, Mynhier's class was not as bad as people in former reviews made it out to be. Honestly, it was just like any other intro micro class, and compared to the classes I've taken with even 3-4 star reviews, this was not nearly as difficult. The class did feel a little bit like a high school class (ppl would go up to the chalkboard/lecture the class, there were like 40 ppl total in lect), but I couldn't tell if it was silly and fun or frustrating. More ppl felt the latter and, honestly, I kinda get it bc sometimes we would just be watching people do problems the whole time. Lol

I was a little, however, peeved at my final grade; I don't think it was a skill issue, maybe it was, but honestly they took excessive points off on Psets/small problems for unnecessary things. Psets were annoying to do but ultimately helpful practice. I felt like an expert at econ yet still got points off for, again, basic math errors. I took AP Micro/Macro in hs (got a 4 on both), so honestly I would say just stay on top of things. I overestimated how easy the class was and it ended up nipping me back.

CONS: Yes, taking this class means essentially self-studying the equivalent of AP micro. The professor seems genuinely nice but lectures are slides that are verbatim from the textbook and reading quizzes before class means you have to know the content before she introduces it. As someone who hadn't taken econ in high school, this class had a STEEP learning curve.

PROS: The TA (Jon) was genuinely amazing. He made sure we understood the content/were prepared for the midterm and final. Also, because this class follows the format of the AP/any intro micro class, there are a lot of good resources online.

OVERALL: Yes, this class would be easier/more enjoyable if the professor was clearer. However, you can get a good great if you go to TA office hours/put in the time to study on your own. I wouldn't take this class for fun, but if you're a PA major/minor, it is doable and you can a good grade if you put in the effort.

As someone who previously really did not like econ I was super nervous to take this class, but it ended up being fine because I put a lot of work and time into making sure I understood the content. You really do need the textbook for this class in my opinion, as most of the time lectures are sort of just a summary of the reading. Personally, I didn't feel like I could have a really good grasp on the content just from lecture though. Discussion is practice problems, which I found quite helpful. Both the TA and the Professor make it VERY clear you can come to them for help with anything. Even if you are historically bad at math and econ (like me) you can succeed in this class if you really put the time in and also get help from the prof and TA

I'm not sure what happened last quarter but I had a good time in Professor Mynhier's class. She was very reasonable, was engaged, and very in tune with student needs. Her lectures were not perfect but were worth going to, as she provided good extra information. Overall this class was not exceptional but it is easy enough.

Honestly, the work was very doable, but the entire concept of economics is tricky and Professor Mynhier did not really help at all in understand it. Every single lecture was a copy and paste from the textbook, so going to lecture was not necessary. Professor Mynhier offered extra credit several times which was nice. But again, having her teach economics was just not ideal. I do not recommending taking her class for Pub Aff 40.

I am genuinely confused by this professor's ratings. She gives ample extra credit, is incredibly accommodating to students (going as far as individually assessing student grades if a student did poorly on the midterm), and the material is that of a basic microeconomics intro course. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, and though she does spend a lot of it talking about topics that are not directly related to the coursework, one can simply not attend if they think it is a waste of time. I have had a class I would consider to be a 2/5, and comparing that to this one, it isn't even close. Do not be deterred by these reviews. If you put in a reasonable amount of time for this class you will do fine.

public affairs majors, i know you have to take this class but plan it out so you don’t have this professor.

where to even begin…. if you have a choice, do NOT take those class with mynhier. she was extremely disorganized, unhelpful, and honestly not a good teacher at all. the whole quarter the only thing i could think of was what a complete waste of my tuition and time this class was. my ta had no clue what they were doing, and genuinely could not even understand the class material. the concepts aren’t hard- the math is easy, and the actual material is easy to understand. this professor just makes everything unnecessarily difficult for no reason. the book did a better job of explaining things than her, and literally everything she says during lecture is verbatim from the book—if you do the readings you don’t need to go to class. she would get answers wrong or not be prepared for class. she was 20 minutes late to the midterm. she had to give out ec because everyone complained about the midterm grades, and was very unwilling to be accommodating for students that had to leave when class ended because of other classes. if you tank your midterm, even thought its only 20% of your grade, you have practically no shot of getting an A. its not hard material, even for a north campus major. it would have even been interesting had it not been for this professor. don’t take it with her. trust. don’t. and if you HAVE to then my best piece of advice is to read the book, and do the practice problems at the end of each section. make friends and study in groups. do the problem sets in groups ( she allows this) and I recommend watching Jacob Clifford on youtube (a microeconomics prof) to walk you through the material.

Nearly every slide from Professor Mynhier was word for word from the textbook -- meaning if you did each of the assigned readings, there was no point in attending lecture. She added virtually no personal analysis or contributions to the textbook material, which was especially disappointing considering I was hoping she would connect the microeconomic theories we were learning in class to current events and public affairs given this course is titled "microeconomics for public affairs"...
There were multiple lectures where it seemed Professor Mynhier didn't review the slides beforehand, leading to her giving incorrect answers to practice problems and frequently reading straight from the slides (which, as I mentioned, was almost always copy and pasted from the textbook).
Professor Mynhier is generous with grading though -- offering extra credit assignments, and a few extra credit questions on the midterm. I appreciated this grading-flexibility.
Overall though, disappointed with this course.

This class was not *that* bad despite the last review. I believe that taking an econ class as a pub aff major will probably be tough no matter the professor, and Professor Mynhier really did give students opportunities to keep our grades up. The content was tricky for me because math is not my specialty and this was my first ever econ class, but the math isn't too hard (its all just basic algebra) the hard part is graphs and memorization of many concepts. There were a lot of opportunities to raise your grade-- problem sets, weekly "quizzes" (bottom 2 grades are dropped) and she offered a few extra credit opportunities in class and on the first midterm. The final was a bit tricky but nothing crazy. If you need to take this class you will be fine if you pay attention and keep up with it. I didn't feel like she expected anything unreasonable of us. I didn't really even know what was going on before the midterm and I ended up getting 100% after studying.

This is not a hard class; as long as you do the readings, the lecture slides and quizzes are taken exactly from them. There are 3 problem sets assigned as homework, but you can work in groups to do them, and if you attend office hours they will help you get the correct answer for any problem within them
The professor is a very nice person, but her teaching is not always the most clear, in that she doesn't always answer questions according to what the student actually asked.
If you took AP Econ in high school, you will be very prepared for this class, but even if you didn't, it shouldn't be too hard.
