Leslie Johns is perhaps not the greatest professor I've ever had, but she is perfectly adequate. The material is generally pretty engaging and she does a very good job of presenting the material. It's very true what the other evaluations have said, in that she basically just outlines the book. I think it makes the class easier as I would just attend lecture and never had to open the book once. The final and midterms are easy enough, just as long as you memorize the information presented to you. You must answer the questions exactly the way it was presented to you in the lecture or in the textbook. That being said, if you attend lecture/just read the textbook and study a bit before the test, you should get A's with relative ease. There are 3-5 policy briefs that involve current events that are more interesting and they are a large part of your grade. If you get a good TA, you should get easy 100%s on these assignments and it will provide a solid bump for your grade.
Take this class, it's interesting (for me at least) and it's truly not very difficult at all.
Professor johns is an amazing professor !!!!! Many students belive that she gives to much reading and too much information, but frankly that is how law school is going to be.
She knows her information and she is super smart!!!!!!!!!!! I will come to class and I will be inspired even more . As for her test : one midterm and one final. Her midterm is LONG AND HER FINAL IS EVEN LONGER !!! however if you study every thing which I mean everything, you should get a good grade .!
Study the readings !!! The weekly readings will be on the final and on the mind term!!! Read them! Understand them! And if you don't know ask the TAs. I had Francesca and she was GREAT!!!!!! She made the class super fun. She even took cookies for us!
And I still keep in contact with her till now . Take the class you will work hard!, but you will be happy for what you accomplished .
I got an A on this class :)
Professor Johns is a pretty great professor. Her lectures are well structured (pretty much based off the textbook), move quickly, and convey the main ideas efficiently.
To do well on the exams, attend lecture and take notes (she hits all the main points concisely for the exams), know the vocab and be able to regurgitate it, and know real world examples for the vocab/main ideas.
I'm selling the textbook (World Politics: Interests, Interactions, Institutions, 2nd Ed.) bought new for fall 2015. The book is in good condition and is unmarked.

Competent professor. Clear and organized lectures.
Frankly, this is an easy class -- either go to lecture and take notes or read the textbook, and you'll do fine.
Weekly policy briefs are a bit of a bore, but they're a bit junk of your grade and serve as nice padding.
Curiously, there was a massive curve on the final. For the midterm, go to the test bank. She preserves the structure and types of questions from past exams.
123A: International Law
nice lady, decent topic (even though at the end of the day, all international law is completely illegitimate) but this class gives zero handouts. and maybe it shouldn't, but it makes it THAT much harder than you typical UCLA class where any and all resource is available to encourage your success.
it is a real pain in the butt that she does not
a. record her lectures for future reference when studying for finals
b. post her slides online
c. give out any study guide whatsoever for a TON of information. what is on the final remains unknown
they say you should take this class as an example of a law school class. they are right.
I actually took 123A...
I liked her. She's very organized, I did the readings assigned for quizzes, and got an A+.
She does not post her lectures online, and that makes it an absolute requirement to show up to her class. The grade consists of a midterm, a final, and weekly quizzes in the discussions.
I recommend to bring a laptop to class to type up the lectures, because it goes by very fast.
The midterm and the final are straight out of the lectures and the readings; I just memorized it.
The weekly quizzes I found were a bit hard, so I recommend taking good notes, which is what I did, to do well on the quizzes.
She's friendly, nice, and the TA's were okay..fair good graders, but I didn't find that my particular TA supplemented the class well.
Grade received: A+.
This class is incredibly intense, but definitely worth the work. If you're looking for an A, you need to be willing to do all the reading(professor johns probably anticipated people slacking because there were section quizzes almost every week), take amazing notes( sometimes difficult because she speaks incredibly fast, but she has slides), and study incredibly hard. If you're interested in getting a general feel for international law this is an excellent class, but it's gonna have to be your priority. Difficult course, but getting an A is definitely possible.
I actually had her for 123A International Law (but it wasn't an option). She teaches from the new thought of political science. That is, she really believes in numbers and game theory analysis. Many times in class I would sit there and just be thinking, "what is she talking about". But at other times I would be on the edge of my seat because International Law has many interesting aspects. The difficult thing is that there was LOTS of reading and LOTS of notes. If you do not do the reading or take good notes you will not do well. The class was based on a midterm test, which was very difficult, and a final paper that also had a take home part (just as difficult). The take home part of the test was fun because you finally got to do some analysis rather than spitting out the notes she gave you. She teaches very interesting stuff, but presents it in the most dull way possible. If you want an easy class do not take her. I will admit though, I rememeber a lot from the class.
she & this class is decent. should not be hard if you took a lot of gov classes in high school .. pretty easy and conceptual.. just read over your notes and attend lecture then you will get a good/decent grade on the tests // there are 7-8 policy briefs due but i find they helpful of boosting your grade.. but TA choice is important!
ATHLETES she will not let you reschedule midterms due to scheduling conflicts. No exceptions. Do not take if you have a conflict.
