Dr. Ponciano is very knowledgeable in the field of child development. However, she talks really really fast. Her quizzes are kind of treacky and require you to think critically and to apply concepts, there are also short answer questions. For this class we had to read two books, Neighborhoods to Neurons and Preschool in 3 Cultures. The first book is completely dry and she requires you to read the entire book! The majority of the concpets come from the book. However, no questions really com from the book, that is if you pay attention in class you don't have to do all that reading. If you have to choose between reading chapters for her quizzes you have a better chance of getting a good grade if you spend that time studying the lecture notes. The other book is more interesting. This is not an easy class.
