Winston is a very nice professor. She does repeat herself sometimes, but that helps with the memorization. When I took it, we covered more traditional subjects, such as samurais and geishas, so don't expect anything too contemporary. Books are all online and short stories are always available on CCLE.

Very chill, would recommend. It does help to have an interest/background in the subject though.

Complete waste of a class. You're tested on little minuscule information over a vast array of readings. Way too many readings. Boring lecture. Tests cover uneven amount of topic. No point in learning "big pictures" or "themes" within literature because it's mostly a memorization of what happened in the readings or films. Amount you really learn/will be prepared for the tests really depend on which TA you get. I would not recommend anyone to take this class.

The guy below me is pretty clearly just sour about a poor grade. If you do the reading (which was literally 3 pages one week) and attend lecture, this class is an easy A and a great GE.
