给中国学生的建议：
别因为看到这么多差评就不选他的课了。他的教学水平是很差，但还没差到不可接受的地步。作业是很难，但也还没难到不能完成的地步。如果你数学基础还不错平常又比较爱学习，在他的课上拿个A还是比较轻松的。
他这个人还是挺不错的。看得出来是个非常博学的人，幽默感也很棒。上他的课虽然对你学好这门课没什么实质性帮助，但也不至于像某些教授的lecture那么无聊。
总之Chayes还是个可以接受的教授吧。如果32A的课只剩下他的了，可别因为是他的课所以就不报了。

Literally the worst professor that I have had at UCLA. Yes, he is a really smart guy and if you really like solving ridiculously long and tedious proofs, you may enjoy him as a professor, but I took this class at the same time as my roommate, who had a different professor, and even he had no idea how to solve most of the problem sets, especially because Chayes does not follow the textbook.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS.

So i heard math 32a wasn't supposed to be such a tough class. Then i saw Chayes' reviews and reasoned that a difficult class with a crummy professor should even out to an average difficulty class. Well, I was wrong. The homework questions he assigns are mandatory and impossible. His exams are nonpareil in their difficulty and his lectures are completely worthless. If you will be stuck with Chayes, I recommend taking a break from math for a quarter.

Chayes sucks. That's all there is to it.
His class is insanely difficult. He teaches at the level of an Honors Math course, even though the class is a normal course.
It is 100% proofs, which you have to come up with all by your lonesome.
He huffs and puffs and it sounds like he wants to blow your house down, it is really weird.
Basically, don't take this class if you can help it.

Do you know if he curved with the total of both lectures or the lecture you were in? Cause my lecture was 20% above the other lecture. If so I think thats dumb. We took the same final, same midterm, and did the same homework.

DONT EVER TAKE HIS CLASS. His lectures are just proofs and have nothing to do with the textbook. No matter how much I studied I could not do well in this class.

I worked harder than I ever have on a class before. His problem sets are extremely difficult and took me at least 10 hours a week to get correct. He is difficult to understand and lectures and problems are completely theoretical. After spending so much time on this class that it hurt my grades in other classes, I ended up with a C. Avoid it at all costs.

let me know if you retaking this class with mess so we can form a study group and ace that crap...
