Spring 2023 - I’m not really a fan of history, but this class was manageable. Sometimes it could be pretty interesting. He tells you everything you need to study for the tests. My advice is to go to every lecture - even if you don’t pay attention, you will still kind of subconsciously pay attention and then you will learn something. The discussions are also a nice recap of the week. I was kind of annoyed that we had to do a “listening exam” - it was like a second midterm, which is so extra for a GE. But it was all pretty easy. It’s probably a lot more interesting if you’re Jewish or Western European yourself.

Spring 2022 - Professor Black was great! I really enjoyed his lectures and they taught me so much history! He was hilarious and was so helpful and very responsive by email! The papers and assignments for the class were easy, but I got a horrific grade on my midterm because the TA SUCKED. In all of my years of college and school, i have never had a TA as unprofessional as Quinn Brown. He showed up to class at least 20-25 minutes late EVERY FRIDAY (our dicsussion was only 50 minutes long), then made us wait while he got situated (which took another 20 minutes), then dismissed class and gave us all a mandatory makeup assignment even though we all waited in the classroom for him for nearly an hour. He also made things very political which was unnecessary, as the topic we were learning about should be honoring the innocent lives lost during the Holocaust. I would take the class again for sure but i hope they change the TA.
